I believe most Police Departments in the West are undermanned, but that isn't the root cause of increased crime. Here in the UK, there are more Police Officers on the street than there has ever been and yet crime continues to rise. However, why wouldn't it when our Judicial system fails to deal with criminals in a manner that is approriate to the crime committed. If there were more of a deterrent to all forms of crime, I bet you woud see the crime rate fall pretty darn quick. but I mean deterrent - not a namby pamby lenient sentence in an all mod cons cell. There are countless reports of leniency... for example... a Rapist here in the UK serving a prison sentence was allowed out to go shopping at weekends - Why?. His victim hasn't been so fortunate. However, it doesn't end there. On one of his 'days out', he filled out a lottery ticket and scooped the Jackpot! He's now worth millions of pounds.... but has he been told to recompense his victim.... or the State?. No he hasn't - that would really upset the do-gooders wouldn't it?. Until the politicians stop hiding behind their weak willed consciences and condescend to public opinion, crime will continue to pay!

No. The problem is the government has stripped you from being able to protect yourself. Two criminals were shot today in my home town. One was shot and seriously wounded when trying to rob a store. The owner of the store suffered injuries but the robber is in the hospital from a .357 magnum wound. The other person was killed trying to rob a car. A 14 year old boy tried to make off with a car left running to warm it up and the owner came out and shot the driver dead who was a young kid who had done it before and was a foster child dumped on society because people have kids without the means to take care of them properly. We need to be able to arm ourselves because crime is out of hand everywhere and the only people who can protect themselves are the police and only a handful of people with permits. There is no easy fix but you should be able to encourage people to get involved but they don't because people do not want to help the police because they do not like the police. I love to hear about criminals who get shot or killed because I know that they will be less equipped to victimize others after a cap in them.

I believe so. They are undermanned and behind the times. The daylight robbery of the bank in CA a few years ago is a perfect example of being behind the times. Being undermanned is evident is you travel down any interstate you may or may not see a cop. It take me 2 hours to get to my dads house and i very rarely see a cop of any kind.

Oh yes. Crimes rates have gone through the roofs in the city of Philadelphia, where crime is rampant, especiallly murder. Philly really could use a lot more cops.

Yes. My department is undermanned by 600 officers.
We are danger low. It is due to politics and egos.

Not in my town. They still have speed traps. Any department that has enough time to catch people speeding trying to get to work on time is not under manned.
