If you pay attention in class, don't let anyone/anything distract you from the "teachers'" instructions, during that period, you shouldn't have a problem studying. Listen and print this method: Your receiving poor marks because your NOT paying attention is class. Your "brain" can't do homework, if it didn't receive the instructions on how to solve/complete your homework. Now think of your "brain" as a computer - you know perfectly well that you have to perform ALL the functions on your computer, to send this question out to Yahoo!Answers participants. Well thats exactly how your brain works. At night, when you go to sleep, the important things that you were taught, and you learned that day are "stored" into your "long term bank" (like "save" on your computer) - then when your awake, your "brain" is running on its' "short term bank" - now if you haven't listened in class, or paid attention when someone/teacher/mother/ were giving you instructions/lessons - then - when you need to draw up the information to complete an assignment - it isn't there! Now you start looking for the information in your text books, but because you didn't pay attention in class, you still don't understand what you are reading. I hope your understanding this - SHUT OFF THE TV - create "silence" while you read this, and concentrate, and you will remember. In class, if your classmates are distracting you - tell them - your future security and financial independance is at stake. Without a good education, you will forever living in poverty, working at minimum wage, from paycheck to paycheck. There is only so much time your "parent"(s) will support you. SMARTS have nothing to do with intelligence .. its what you do with what you have been given. Set goals for yourself - and as you achieve them, set another goal. So your FIRST goal - is: concentrate and pay attention in class. 2: Set your priorities. Do ALL your homework FIRST and then you can really enjoy your free time. Watch how your MARKS improve. ps when doing your homework, try playing music you like, softly in the background, not in your ears! This method relaxes the body and allows the "Brain" to load. Good Luck in your future endeavours - I'am proud of your past achievements - shows "self-confidence" - a GREAT quality.

People are smart in a lot of different ways. There's book smart, street smart, people smart. Someone can be an athletic genius, while someone else is an artistic genius. I've known many people who couldn't get higher than a C in high school, but who took off in college or later. Getting an editorial in a newspaper is not really easy, unless you're, like, the editor's kid. It sounds like at least you can write well and do some good research. That will definitely take you far. So, yeah, you're smart in those ways, even if you never manage the studying thing.

School is a test of both intelligence and perserverance. You have to put in the hours to learn the material, and for the children who are a little quicker on the uptake, it often takes less time.

As you grow older you'll find that you can't just get by on fumes, and once in a while you have to actually sit down and read the text book. If you get started now, you'll have a much better chance of succeeding in college etc. Just do all your homework and when you have a test, read over the material a few times. Even an hour of focused work can have a marked affect on your school work. Don't be lazy!

C's and B's are alright, considering that your test grades, according to you, are very poor. The valedictorian speech and editorial are a plus. However, since I don't know your IQ, WISC, ELA/Math, SAT, ACT, or other scores related to intelligence and knowledge, and, since I don't know you as I person, I conclude that I cannot tell if you are smart from this information. QED.

You can take a class on how to study effectively. You can be considered smart with just C Average -- it just depends on how hard you worked to get that C. Smart isn't always what one learns in a book but how one acts, present themselves, and treatment of others.

Everyone has their own study habits try a few like flash cards, group studies, or even writing everything down to where you see and read it then say it. When you find it you'll love it I'm in college and I had to learn which one worked for me and now I love it.

Yeah your smart, but even you know you could do better. get in group with friends and help each other study. Trust me it helps big time. they give you their way and you can go over it with them. Now take those b and c and make them a and remember you are smart but you could always do better.

Sounds like you're pretty smart but you're not applying yourself anymore or you could bump those C's to B's.
