Shingles will appear only on one side of the body, It is a varicella zoster virus. It occurs in people who have had chickenpox, the chickenpox blisters go away from the skin but the virus will stay in the nerves. They can manifest at any time and will return as shingles. Shingles will often start out as itching and then red spots. The pain can range from mild to very severe. If caught early enough, some of the antivirals such as acyclovir can help with the pain. The shingles are usually self-limiting and can stay as long as 3-5 weeks. The pain from the shingles can stay longer. The position of the shingles are along the dermatome regions in the body, but again, will appear only on one side. See your doc, he can at least give you something for the itching and pain.

The itchy red bumps are another outbreak of the shingles. The bumps (virus) travel along a nerve root, which is why the outbreak most likely will not be in the same place..
