The Netherlands and soon Australia are requiring prospective immigrants to view a video that describes the country's views. For example, the Dutch want immigrants to know that they are very accepting of homosexuality and nudity. If immigrants can't accept these things, they do not qualify to live in their country. It seems to mostly be used as a way to deter ultra-conservative Muslims from immigrating to the Netherlands. What do you think of this? Is it effective? Is it morally correct? Why or why not? If you need more details, read this article and give your thoughts. Should other Western countries implement something similar?

Thanks for the answers so far, there are one or two that I think are well thought out, but I'd like to hear some more. I would like to stress that I did not ask the question specifically to people from the US, as it is not the only country dealing with illegal immigration. I invite people from all over the world to give their opinion. Thanks.

i think it depends in whether or not freedom of speech is allowed in that country . in my opinion immigrants just like citizens should be able to have their own opinions and ways of live unless such ways are harmful to the society they are immigrating to .

i am pretty sure that just like there is liberals in those countries there is also people who are conservative and want changes to happen , should the immigrants be exposed to those views too ??? , should the immigrants change their view every time that country goes one side or the other ??? .

imposing our way of thinking is never right , we may teach them and explain to them how is it that we like to live , but a world in which one has not right to be different would be a world where freedom is just not real .

i of course like all others think one should do as Romans do in Rome but imposing our points of views is just not part of being civilized any more . however if a country is completely opposed to the way of living of the one immigrating the one immigrating should adapt just like one should adapt in any other situation .

through history there is more than one occasion in which someone from other country help build that country and made it better by providing their own ideas . there is also some which opposed the way of life of those countries they traveled to but in the end they were an inspiration and an opportunity to change .

when rome use to be an empire they used to have a colisseum in which all kind of atrocities were commited , one day a traveler from asia saw what was going on and went inside the colisseum and stop someone who was about to murder his oponent . everyone was mad and stoned the man who stopped their fun . but what he did created a new way of thinking and made wonder all who saw what he did whether or not what they were doing was right . that man changed their way of thinking . that man did not agree with their ways .

Well I do agree, because I think that if you're thinking of really moving to a new country, you should be ready and prepared to accept that some things are going to be different from 'back home', that's what they talk about when they say 'culture shock'.
Good story on that talked about japanese tourists going to paris, and some of em just not being able to deal with the difference between the travel posters and what was really going on in Paris when they got there....world's a big place, you know what 'home' is by virtue of the fact that things there are familiar, the way you expect em to be. Go to another country, you have to kind of consider yourself a guest, and not get all wrapped around the axle because things aren't 100% to your liking...

unlawful immigrants are no longer risk-free in the hot regulations for wellbeing care and for insurance reforms. while those illegals have shown up at emergency rooms over the final ten years, notwithstanding, they're dealt with and those expenses have been right now surpassed directly to the INSURED by the for-income hospitals, meaning larger rates for those with insurance. The Obama administration believes that this pass-down of expenses concerning ER centers to nonpaying illegals has been UNFAIR to people who pay for his or her insurance or unfair to the government who has been billed. The no longer elementary areas for politicians has been the thank you to stability being humane with being fiscally responsible. the drawing close debates could be exciting to observe on the two C-SPAN1 or C-SPAN2 (abode and Senate, respectively). the two events are slightly afraid of alienating Hispanic (or different nationalities') electorate in an election year, so progression is very sluggish.

Yes. It's 100% correct. It's 100% morally correct. How dare people come to a foreign country and expect their views to be respected when they refuse to respect the culture that was already there. All Western Countries should do it. If you want to live under the culture of the country you came from, you shuold stay there.

Why would anybody choose to immigrate to a country that they would not be comfortable living in in the first place. I think more countries could benefit by following this example of screening new immigrants.

I applaud both of those countries for doing so.

The aussies said, you're welcome to come here but this is what we are about as a country. If you don't like it, stay in your own country.

The Dutch are VERY liberal in their thinking. Again, if conservative muslims don't like drugs, or nudity or whatever, they should not live there.

Same with the US. We need to stand up for what our country is about-- everybody is welcome if you come legally. We are a melting pot of alot of people, but we have our own identity. We're not changing it-- you need to change/adapt to OUR culture even though we respect yours.

If that is the countries views then the immigrants needs to be tolerant of it, or go somewhere else.

Either like our laws or get the fluck out!! I have to obey the laws. The fact that most are illegals says that they dont respect our laws in the first place!! If you want to come here legally though, yeah...hell yeah, you should have to obey just like real Americans!!

i agree with it. every country has it's own laws and ways. if you don't like the way the country is, there's other country's to chose from to live. they just need to do it legal.

100% right. i hope they show it to immagrants coming to the uk. and worst of all, the bombings that muslims have done in london is scary! if they come in to our country, they should atleast remove there veil and respect where they live now! i swear if we bombed their country, or even build a catholic church in pakistani or whatnot, it would be bloody world war 3!!
