I just think it's so rude when people "need" an answer to their "very serious" question and then who knows if they actually read the answers!
I understand there are some cases when all of the answers are so similar that the person might choose not to pick a best answer, but couldn't they pick the first one to get it right?

Maybe sometimes, NOBODY answers your question and the asker feels that noone deserves to be chosen best.

I've noticed that quite often, when a question goes to voting, the best answer chosen by voters is the first answer. (because nobody takes the time to read the rest?) So, does it bother you too?

Yes, it bothers me, especially if you take the time to think through your answer so you can give a thoughtful one. Also, if you ask a question, the least you can do is read the answers and decide which one is best.

What irks me is when I forget to choose a best answer and I get an email telling me that one has been chosen. I often post a question and read the answers before the 4 hours are up and then forget about it. By the time 4 hours has gone by you don't get any new answers anyway.

What if several of the answers are good and the asker has a hard time choosing which is best? (Like a recipe for a Bloody Mary) Perhaps in cases like that, it is best to let the voters decide.

When I vote, I choose the best answer, not the first one.

No, it doesn't bother me at all. Many of the questions are solcitations of opinon - no answer is best, but the site allows one to be selected, and so there it is. Also, this site is trivial - people have real lives and don't live here throughout the day/week, and may not care about points as much as they care about getting their kids to dance class.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

Yes Pokey it is quiet annoying... it is like a have a friend that i compete with and I know my answers are better than hers, if people would just pick the best answers it would be mine and my friend would see that I have better answers than her, but noooo, people don't always take time to vote :P

A well presented question certainly deserves a response. And, a well-prepared answer should be chosen. However, sometimes the best answer is the funniest answer...and sometimes I just wanna say..."get a LIFE!!!"

Kind of.

I always pick a best answer becase then the person will get 10 points and feel special. I feel bad though when I write an answer and the person does not read it.

Yes, I'd like to know what the person who asked the question thinks.
