AM = Low sound quality, prone to interference especially after dark. Can cover up to 100 miles depending on transmitter power and antenna during the day, and up to several thousand after dark on a clear channel. Uses internal antenna in the listener's radio.

FM = High sound quality, much less prone to interference and fading, Constant coverage of up to 100 miles depending on transmitter power and antenna height, unaffected by day or night.
