I would explain that even though they taste disgusting, they are good for you...just like my mother told me. I would also explain that when they grow up they should not make their kids eat anything that tastes like asparagus.

No the pee thing works on adults too. My boyfriend tried asparagus just to see for himself.

As for how to describe it to a child, I would say it's similar to the stalk part of broccoli.

I would tell the child that it tastes good , but may be an acquired taste. Tell them that other children love it and just give it a try. Make sure it is tender and has butter and salt on it.

Just tell 'em it'll make their pee smell funny...Some kids may eat it just to smell their pee afterwards
