Hi, I run on the tredmill, and im pretty sure that when you run on an incline, you build up more indurence. I run about 1 mile 3 times a week, in about 7:50mins. and i know thats not a great time, but hey, i just started out 2 weeks ago. anyway, will adjusting the incline on the tredmill improve my time, and indurence? also, how should i start out, like what angle? and how long until i start increasing it? thanks alot -George

It's hard to say what angle you should start with, as I'd like to see you doing it to be able to tell. Everyone's body is different.
Running on a incline will make your stronger, your heart especially, this is why it's good to increase it very gradually. The higher the incline the harder your heart has to work. You might want to try running half of your workout on a regular tread, and then the other half at a nice comfortable incline, this way you will increase gradually and get stronger gradually. It's better for all your muscles this way too.

Most treadmills go to 10 or 12%. Start at 5% and work up 1% every minute until you reach full incline. If it gets too steep along the way you will be able to adjust easier and learn your most comfortable maximum angle.
