That is a good and valid point. When I was a Christian those 30 years, I tried to overlook the mistakes and errors. It was hard, but I did like all Christians do, that is I spouted the pat answers for the mistakes like all Christians do.

I had a hard time when I would find out scholars say that the texts used for our bible is not the original and not just one. The reason is that the original books like Mark or John have been lost and they are translated using many copies of the text and that each is different so it is the translators job to decide what the text really says. This is just one example of the many things I could not keep overlooking and finally I left Christianity and am now Wiccan.

Pick up a Study bible that has introductions to each book and you will find that scholars are divided over who wrote these books and one really disturbing thing for me was that according to scholars, Matthew, and John, which is supposed to be written by two apostles who were with Jesus actually used the gospel of Mark for their Gospel. Mark was the nephew of Barnabas and never saw Jesus, so why would these old men who were with Jesus in the beginning use a gospel written by a guy who was not even around?

So my friend that is a very good point and question.

Without saying as much in so many words, this approach to the Bible and the alleged "bible mistakes" actually invites people to a kind of intellectual suicide. They injects into life a false certitude, for it unwittingly confuses the divine substance of the biblical message with what are in fact its human limitations.

Without flooding this page with lots of examples of the stupidity of "bible mistakes", anyone can google "answers bible contradictions" and get hundreds of web pages explaining, sooner or later, how these "mistakes" are the result of misinterpretation, or a refusal to take into account that the bible is not a history book, but paints historical portraits. Answering each and every charge would take forever. Inconsistencies do not take away from the divine truths that are expressed in the Bible, and given the fact that the bible was written by dozens of human authors (under inspiration) over thousands of years, using a variety of literary styles that most people never heard of and in different cultures, it shouldnt bother anyone that the bible does not come across like a math book.

Jesus had to deal with similar people who could not see the truth in front of them because they had the scriptures in their eyes. They were called scribes and pharisees.

animation3dfx,
Have you ever in your lifetime, had a side by side comparison of scriptures that were written separately, from different sources hundreds of years apart, and seen that they were practically the same, even though the languages were different. That's the kind of attention that was paid to the Biblical scriptures over the couple of ages that is has existed. BUT, is you are going to quibble over whether Nebbukanezer appeared as Nebbuchadnezer in some of them, then I guess you can be as critical as you want.

But the question I have for you is: Do you even WANT to know God, if He is knowable, or not? If not; then why are you spending so much time greater scholars than you or I have been convinced of for better reasons than you or I?

Simple - it's not filled with mistakes. If you have a specific question, there might be someone on this sight with the insight to answer. I don't know everything about the Bible - I never will. There is so much there, that even with intense study, I will never know everything. I cannot even pretend to know all of God's mind - He is infinite, I'm a puny little human with a finite brain. But God can answer any question - as long as it is asked with an open heart and mind.

I would challenge you to transcribe just a chapter in a book without making any errors. NO mi spellings, no typos, word for word letter for letter. Very few can do that.

Yes the Bible may have some errors...but they are simple transcription errors in areas that is not important at all. The FULL TRUTH of the Word of God is intact, including that we are all sinners and in need of redemption. The question for you then, will you accept the free gift that will bring you salvation?

what mistakes? which translation? The King James version is the closest translation of the original Hebrew/Greek Bible. Many words used in the Bible have different meanings from back then, some words we cannot translate into todays words and meanings unless we know how it was being used when it was being written back then.

I only wanted to check one so 'who killed Goliath' was it. It's obviously two different episodes as Saul is alive in the first popular version and in the second they are burying his bones b/4 the fight. I don't need to verify God's Word as Noah's Ark sure enough sits on Mt. Ararat and the Shroud of Turin shows the wounds of Jesus. Also the replica of the Ark of the Covenant, the ancient depictions of the great flood, as well as the Exodus. There are encounters with angels as well as near death visions of heaven. Now, how do you unexplain these?

You can send me your list of mistakes (just click my name, and send me an email or instant message) in the Bible, and I will answer them the best I can.

I don't believe the Bible contradicts itself. It may contradict our understanding of it, but never itself. Of course, the Bible is going to appear to be self-contradictory when you read it trying to find cotradictions. If the Bible did contradict itself, why would people honestly continue following it, even after thousands of years?

Obviously, it can be no such thing. In addition to numerous errors of fact, it has dozens of internal contradictions. See the reference for some fun reading. I note that responder Muslimah has come up with a bunch of these; I'll have to check to see whether that list is distinct from Burr's.
