Purpose of going to war:
1) Wanted to redeem themselves for getting the crap kicked out of them during the Franco-Prussian War.
2) Germany violated the neutrality of Belgium (which almost sucked America into the war in 1914, just fyi)

Weapons used:
1) The most famous gun used by the French was the Chaucat. It was a light machine gun designed to be carried by infantry men. It had many draw backs: A) The magazine was open, so the operater could see how much ammuntion he had left. This despgn element caused dirt and mud from the dirty trenches to get into the gun. Many Chaucats would jam in the heat of combat. B) Even though official designated as a mcahine gun, it could not fire more that approximately 300 round before overheating. This fact is lost in history.
2) Other than the Chaucat, the French had many of the same weapons as the rest of the Allied armies.

*Sorry I couldn't get more info for you

Military buildup - all the european powers had been engaged in an arms race forever. In the early part of the 20th century predominant military thought suggested that the sheer size of their weapons stockpiles made the war inevitable.

New weapons that were used - Tanks, machine guns, airplanes, chemical weapons.

Frances purpose for going to war was to repel the invading Germans.

The French were allied with Russia, Britain and someone else. America joined that alliance very late in the war.

I'll let others answer the rest

One of the greatest subject in our History and your lazy *** has to come on here to ask everyone else to give you answers to your homework. How pathetic.. This is exactly why the kids of today are so close minded and learn nothing, because most of them (mind you not all of them ) do this, and slack through their work and school. Dont you think your American History is something that is important enough for you to maybe look up or research? Jesus, learn something, just dont expect it to be given to you.

I bet if this assignment included make a myspace page on WWI you be all over it. Pathetic.

---------------------------------------------
So because your teacher is a lazy ***, that means you should be one too? I still say it should be something important enough for you to be interested and research, but your too much of a moron and prolly more interested in what colors and font is on your facepage or myspace or whatever other lame premade pages are made for you people that have no clue about HTML. So keep making exscuses for you to feel better about yourself. Skate through life be a moron. It effects me none, but I will be sure to point you out when I see you. :)

France in WWI: Pompous idiots who got their A$$ kicked by the Germans.
