We are called to fully participate in celebrating the Mass. We cannot do this by watching it on television.

Television is a substitute for those people who are sick or otherwise home-bound and cannot come to church.

With love in Christ.

When the Mass was Latin and the priest faced the wall or tabernacle, the Mass was on television on Sunday mornings. After the change to English and sharing the rite with the congregation tvs are not permitted...it has to be a cost measure also...Catholics have a reason...It deals with the Mass.

Because when we are present at the Mass we are really transported throughout all of Jesus life through his ministry--all the way through his crucifixion and death at Calvary (we stand beneath the cross with Mary and John) and we are with him at the Heavenly Banquet where he feeds us his Body and Blood in the Holy Eucharist. We offer ourselves through the Body of Christ to the loving Father too. It is such a blessing to be able to be there. Why bother with a t.v? Sometimes for people who cannot attend Mass , they can get some comfort in watching the Mass on T.V. from EWTN or another channel but, it is not the same.

As a Former Catholic I am offended to this Question. Not all Catholic Churches refrain from TV's LOL. However, There is a Catholic TV Called WETV or something like that.

The Mass is the highest form of prayer and worship on earth. It is the single most important event to ever grace existence.

TVs have no place in the Mass. The rituals and prayers are very old and very specific. This is a time for worship and prayer. TVs are for the classroom, not the Mass.

Some Catholic churches do use them unofficially (not for sacraments). Like Christmas eve Mass at the Vatican. You can not receive the Grace from the sacrament by TV.

For the sacraments (outward sign instituted by Christ to give grace to the people) the people must be present. Jesus set the standard, we follow His lead.

It depends on the individual church. Some larger ones actually do.

But most of them don't use them because they are a distraction to what is going on in the Mass. People go to church for spiritual enlightenment, community, and to get closer to God...not to sit and watch TV. they could just stay at home and get the same experience.

whywould they - it's not needed. there are some masses that are televised but it's not like a specific preacher like in other denominations. no matter what catholic mass you turn into on a given Sunday, they are preaching and discussing the same readings and Gospel.

Because catholics have lots and lots more followers than the ones you see on TV (nondenoms and mormons) The catholic church also has more followers that are in the higher bracket of our society (richer) So they dont need to advertise like others do.

Ours does. There is a room off to the side that they like the families with small children to be in . They watch and listen to what's going on in the church with those of us that don't have any brats.
