It's been a long time since I've been to NYC and I flew into La Guardia last time and Newark once before that. I remember it taking about an hour to get into Manhattan from both and the airports were uncomplicated and user friendly... What, in your opinion, is the best choice of airport, when flying in to NYC? Looking for info on the commute costs and time, especially from JFK since I haven't used it.

The best one - because it's the closest to Manhattan, smaller and fairly neat, and also the cheapest cab fare because of the shortest distance, and the least traffic is no doubt - LaGuardia. (commute time:15-20 min from Midtown in off-peak hours)
JFK has wicked traffic jams on the way to/and from Manhattan very often, and the construction around the airport seems to be neverending.
Newark is the most expensive as far as cab fare to Manhattan (unless you're dead stuck in traffic from JFK)
My favorites for least hassle would be : 1.LaGuardia 2.Newark 3.JFK

It really just depends on where you can get a better deal. I always try to fly with very little luggage so I won't have to bother with a cab. You can take the subway out to JFK but it's my recollection you also have to mess with a shuttle bus between the subway and airport, and the subway ride is sort of long. So that's not my favorite. I prefer La Guardia because there's a city bus you can take directly to the 125th Street & Lex station, not a long ride, and from there jump right onto the 4-5-6 subway and get anywhere. Newark is also OK because there's a shuttle bus that takes you right from the airport into Port Authority, used to cost like $12 and is probably a bit more now, does not take long and from there you can hop right on the subway to anyplace.

i've done all three in the last year. JFK is actually the furthest from Manhattan, since it's all the way in the east part of Queens. you can take the AirTran, which is a monorail, then switch to A/C/E to get into Manhattan; the monorail costs $4-5, and then there is the additional $2 subway fare. plan for a least 1 hour on the public transit part. LGA is a little closer, though you have to take a bus to Astoria (i think M60), then switch to N or R into Manhattan; $2 for bus includes the free transfer to subway. maybe 30-40min, depending on where you want to go in Manhattan. EWR is geographically the closest i believe; there is a AirTrain station that links with the NJTransit trains to take you directly into 34th St Penn Station. cost i think is $10-12. so cheapest is LGA, but fastest is from EWR (about 20-25min from the AirTrain station).

You have use JFK . It's so much better then the other two. JFK is about 30 mintues from the city by train and less if you're driving. The subway fair is $2.00. But whatever you do don't go to Newark, it sucks.

It depends on where you are going in the city.
Newark and JFK offer better Public Tranportion into Manhatan.
If you are getting into a cab, they are all about the same to Mid-Town Manhattan, cost and time wise.

I've only been to NYC once (recently) and JFK was a nasty run-down airport! If you can avoid it..use one of the others!
