This sounds crazy but I have tried Benadryl and Claritin for post nasal drip. In each case I felt fine during the day, but when I went to sleep I found it hard to describe the symptoms but it was like a half awake nightmare, my brain seemed to be on hyperdrive and I felt like banging my head on the wall or screaming. I watched TV the rest of the night.I'm also on Sudafed and guaifenesin which seems OK.Anyone else experienced this? It happened once before when I was on Norpramin for a neuropathy

I have heard of the same type of side effects you are describing with Claritin, although I have not experienced them myself. My friend, who has this problem, only takes one tablet per day. She takes it in the morning, skipping the second dose and she gets along fine with it now.

This one time, I took an antihistamine in the morning with an empty stomach. Literally slept all day.

Come to think of it, wasn't so bad after all.

Not that strange...benadryl is notorious for either putting you into a coma(#1 ingredient in OTC sleep aids) or keeping you up for days...depends on who you are. That is why there are 10000001 types of drugs for every occassion. I have never heard that about claritin but it is not a surprise...IF the discongestant(sudaphed) does not raise your bloodpressure and the guaifenesin works then just do that...I trust you are using all generic and NOT paying $9.50 for musinex which is JUST guaifinesin which you can get for $2.50...

If anything is mis-spelled talk to the spellcheck gnomes because it is not working.

it alltogether depends on what nightmares you get. a nightmare is how your subcocious tells you that something is wrong. there are many ways to stop them. one way is ome of the most common-relax,think calm and tranquil thaughts before sleeping. another way is when your in your nightmare-it involves having a strong will and perceverance.when you notice your in a nightmare banish it,it is your mind you are in control. if you have a recurng nightmare, try to figure out the cause of this nightmare-it might be greif, remorse, guilt,or whatever. after you find the cause confront it,make things right. most importantly, dont skip a night of sleep!!!dont let the nightmare control you!!!

I only take claritin and I have the exact same problem. It's hard to sleep, then when you do get to sleep you have wierd crazy half awake/half asleep nightmares. Try smoking a little weed before you go to sleep.
