My fiance and I started to foster kittens and my older cat stopped using the litter box. Even after all the cats were adopted out, she kept going on the carpet. It has been a month since any extra animals have been in the house and my cat has started urinating in the litter, but still refuses to poop in the box. We've begun to crate her when we're gone and at night; it seemed to work. Then we started to let her out more often, but within a few days she goes on the carpet again. Its always in the same spot in the house; five feet away from the litter boxes. * A note about the room*. The litter boxes have been in the same room in an extra large wooden box and when our god daughter stays she sleeps in that room.

She is mad at you about those kittens. Shasta did the same thing when Dixie came to live here. She would poop right in the middle of the bed! I had to scolded her and sometimes even put her outside for a while. She finally got over it and uses the box again.

Get a new litter box. Cat's have a real high sense of smell and the litter box should be changed once every 2 or 3 months. You could also try arm and hammer in the litter.

different cats have different scents.... they all smell a little different... the smell of "invaders" must really upset your cat, and she's trying really hard to stay away from the smell of a bunch of different cats.
she doesn't know what to expect next, and she's desperately looking for her own space in the house, a space where HER scent, and HER scent only is dominant!!!!
she obviously hates having to share not only the litter box, but also the whole house, and even you... she sees you, your fiance, your house and the litter box as "HERS" and she doesn't want to share what's hers anymore!!!!
there's a simple solution to your problem: don't bring anymore strange cats around the house... and she'll stop.

well maybe the fact that u let an other animal in her litter box makes her unhappy.....so first i suggest u get a new litter box...and put her paws in it and let her smell.... by putting her paws in she'll know that it is dirt to ummm "go" to.
