Do you mean Super8 or Regular 8mm film? If so the best way to do it is, find ompany that specializes in quality video transfer. If you must do it yourself, then the best way is to obtain a DVD recordable camera, do it yourself video transfer system kit ( available at radio shack) that you use to project the film into the box and ghave the camera lens of the camcorder pointed into a special area on the box and simply tape it as it is projected. Showing a larger image on a wall ( off-white wall works best or a movie screen) The drawback to doing that is that you have to line up the camcorder lens with the projected image so that the light from the bulb of the projector is not picked up by the camcorder, thus washing out your brighter images. This is hard to do as it means your picture may be off center or distorted a bit to eliminate the reflection of the projector bulb. The same problem occurs when transferring slides to video using a standard slide projector. Its cheap enough now that a professional transfer service is probably better and saves you time and headaches.

If you actually mean Hi8 videotape to DVD then, again you can do what is suggested above, or if you have a DVD recorder, you can simply connect the Audio using a standard Red & White audio cable and conect video using the S-Video for better resolution than the standard yellow.
