Protein is essential for the building of muscle, as is occasional red meat, but anything that contains a higher amount of protein will aid you in buiding muscle, as well as exercise, and or working out three times per week, but vary the exercises, to aid in building all your muscles, your back and abdominal muscles are just as important if not more than building ones' chest muscles...

protein builds muscle. And you should eat about every 21/2 to 3 hours. Muscles need fuel. And by constantly feeding them, with the right foods (protein) they can grow.

You need more than just food to build muscle, but the answer is simply: protein!
-You need to eat at least 1 gram of protein for every pound you weigh each day (no more than 40 grams at a time). Drink lots of water to help your body process the protein better.
-You need to consistently work out with heavy weights and low reps to stimulate muscle growth (if you can do it more than 8 times, it's too light).
-You need to let your body totally recover before working out a particular muscle again (less is more when gaining).
-Get 6-8 hours of sleep (perferably 8).
-Take L-Glutamine at night to help keep your body from burning muscle.
-Stay away from too much cardio (nothing that will raise your heartrate for extended periods of time).
-Be consistent! Good luck.

Fish, chicken, lean meat and anything high in protein. If you're trying to get huge tho, you must eat huge, so up the calories also. Nutrition and busting your butt in the gym go hand in hand, so make sure both are in place.
