If 10 christians spent 10 years praying for all the cancer patients at hospital "A",

....and I spent 10 years rubbing a lucky rabbits foot on all the cancer patients at hospital "B",

Why is it that we would share the same survival/death ratio?

Why would you pray to a god that is no more effective than a lucky rabbit's foot?

Prayer has been studied many times, it doesn't change anything and YOU know it.....just look at this article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4681771.stm

Why do so many people continue to advocate this preposterous charade?

(PREPOSTEROUS: Contrary to nature, reason, or common sense; absurd.)

p.s. it is a charade and it's sad that people believe things that are obviously not true

Well first praying for cancer why to cure? Not going to happen you can pray for strenght to handle what you will go through when you are sick. If you know the true God then he will help you with trials and he will help you maintain your spiritual needs. But as for a miracle not going to happen. Prayer helps you to maintain your relationship with God. If you believe in God prayer Lets you be close to God. You talk to your friends so if God is your friend you talk to him. If you do not believe in God then Why ask this Because you do not understand. Like it says in the bible some are blinded to the truth. So you will not see it even if it was in your face.

i think the conclusion is ovbious. Lucky rabbits feet really do bring good luck! I'm rushing out to buy mine now!

Nicely worded, and probably true, but without a thorough investigation, you can't use it as an arguement. And I doublt that 200 cancer patients are going to consent to having blessings and severed limbs interfere with thier treatment.

It is nothing more than the Placebo Effect... And this has been proven...

Whhy still bellieve? Well, because it brings solace to those that do beleive. You almost have to envy that - when you and I are diagnosed with cancer, being non-beleivers, we may just give up the fight and die early. Beleivers, on the other hand, might actually survive it based upon their BELEIF that they might have a chance....

I'm a Humanist and don't believe in prayer, so I agree with you, but I can understand how prayer appeals to some. It makes believers feel less helpless when faced with tragic circumstances. It makes them feel in touch with a greater power that cares about them and (supposedly) can render them aid. Would that it were so.

Jibba Jabba is right: it does have the power to lift the spirits of the faithful. I have prayed with numerous friends who are believers when they asked me to. It didn't change their circumstances one bit, but it comforted and calmed them.

Actually, quite the contrary. It has been proven that people who pray and meditate have a higher success rate at surviving cancer.

You aren't going to convince anyone who prays that it is useless. They will be able to come back with twice as many examples of how it changed lives and circumstances.

Just get up off prayers and find something else to ask.

Sometimes God says wait! Sometimes God says no! Sometimes God says Yes!

Like it or not Prayer WORKS!!!

"Ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth"!

If there is a god, one thing is for sure. He does not get involved with us here. If he did, there would be no children raped and murdered.
