most attacks are revenge, it is very rare that someone attacks another person for no reason, if there was a reason, then it's a revenge. those who attacks for the sake of attacking without a specific reason are likely to have mental disorder, they need help and should go seek help at once. those who seek revenge are not 'evil' i dont think, they are probably protecting loved ones or they are people who hates unjusts, and are brave enough and feel the need to take action punish those who have eg hurt/harm/betrayed for the sake of 'fairness' and 'principles'. Of course some people are evil and they attack and revenge, but as Oscar Wilde says: Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much. Instead of wasting time to take revenge on people who you dislike, im sure one can think of better ways to make use of their time. Do you believe in Karma? What goes around comes around. Those who have been evil will suffer in their own way.

On balance I would say an unprovoked attack would be the worse of the two. As far as evil is concerned? I seem to recall something in the bible about "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth", which seems to allow for revenge, but then fast forward to the new testament and you have "turn the other cheek".
Certainly the bible does seem to have a whole lot of revenge in it, the flood and noah's ark seems to be a pretty impressive example, and so if God can exact revenge, then I don't see that it would be classed as evil for people who are after all supposed to have been made in his image.
From an ethical standpoint I consider reprisal to be an understandable although regrettable response, and would still consider unprovoked attack to be worse.

To attack someone for no reason. Revenge is only justified if they get away with it in the eyes of the law Scot free. Unfortunately in this Nannygoat state that spends its existance protecting ethnic minorities and not everybody Vigilantes are the most trustworthy law enforcers we have. The police would like to enforce the law but are restrained by the Human rights/terrorist sympathiser fanatics!!

It's evil to attack someone and for the second part of your question - 2 wrongs never make a right!

To attack someone for nothing is worse. Personally I wouldn't attack anyone as I'm a wimp. If I was gonna get revenge on someone I would do it in a very psychologically nasty way that would stuff them up for a long time if they deserved it.

both would be considered as being generally unacceptable but to attack a person you've never met before or known in person through work or whatever is for me more evil. i mean, you don't even know he/she that well. you don't even know their name, you've only just met each other out of nowhere. taking revenge on a person you've known and of who went to great lengths to not just hurt you but to make you feel worthless, you realise that you have an animostity or personal vendetta of some sort. you are somewhat spurred by the fact that you know them well and they know you well. although i'd never condone physical violence of any sort.

Either, as long as you ripped off the head and sent it in a gift basket to their mother.
It has to be wasteful too, like if they were trying to make peace or if you weren't needing to eat them. The more wantonly destructive and senseless, the more evil.
Example: Your little sister steals a peice of your Halloween candy, so rape her, break her legs, tie her up in a closet and leave her for dead - especially if mom and dad won't be back for a week because they went to Hedonism for big Halloween party in the Keys. Later, as she starts to rot, you might add some maggots or something to help putrify her. Does it really matter then if you did it for revenge?

Neither is good but attacking someone would be worse. That's usually done with no motive or reason at all where as the other, you have been wronged & lashing back because of the hurt caused to you.
