Your are talking about a volcanic mountain structure that is pointed like a diamond....and it is very beautiful. However, the beauty also comes from the very blue water surrounding the whole island....awesome.

There are trails and you can hike it, but who wants to when they have public transportation (through Diamond Head).

for good information.

You can see it from waikiki beach in Honolulu,
and you can see it when you fly into Honolulu, Oahu Airport, usually the pilot announces it over the airplane speaker.

The FAA Air Traffic Control Center was located on Diamond Head, an inactive volcano. I think it's still there.

A GREAT VIEW, first and foremost.
After that, a lookout point. 360 degrees, and what a view.
On a good day, (all days in HI. are good days). you can see the curve of the earth.
And the sunsets are to die for.
The limb up and down are good too. Usually takes 3 to 4 hours. Also, bring a flashlight, as you will be going through a couple of tunnels on the way up and down. Otherwise it is very dark and impossible to see anything ahead of you.

There are the original WWII look-out posts and gun installations AND an incredible view of the city!!! It's a long hike up but well worth it (be prepared to climb alot of stairs and long paths).
