Yes you can get great deals on eBay but you should remember a few things:

1. Do your research. Know how much the item you are looking for is retail.

2. Browse many sellers and look at their feedback scores. This is huge and can make a big difference in the amount of risk involved in your transaction. Of course you do not want to purchase something from a seller with excessive negative feedback. Here are other factors to consider:

A: High positive feedback Percentage. I typically will not buy from anyone with a positive feedback percentage lower than 98%

B: Be skeptical if you find a really good deal but the seller has a very low number of total transactions. Some accounts are opened with the intent to rip people off. The seller will do a small number of honest transactions to build a positive feedback score and then set someone up for a scam.

C. Check the seller's recent selling history by clicking their feedback number and then some of the item numbers of their past auctions. Look for:
1). The type of stuff the seller usually sells. If you look in the past few auctions and it shows this seller usually sold stuffed animals or around the house type items, and now they are all of a sudden selling top end computers, odds are the account has been hijacked by someone and this is a scam.

2. The last time this seller sold something. If the account has been inactive for months and all of a sudden they are offering New merchandise for very cheap, again odds are the account was hijacked. These type of auctions will usually be in the hundreds (sometimes thousands) of dollars range because as soon as the first person reports the abuse, the account is frozen.

3. ONLY contact the seller by through eBay's "contact seller" link. If you see an auction that says do not use the "contact seller" link and provides another email address for contact, the guy is probably a theif.

Here is why: When you set up a seller account you provide your email address, it is listed on your account and that is the address that anyone will get to when the use the "contact seller" button through eBay. If a theif has hijacked your eBay account and set up a fake auction, he does not want potential victims to use this link because the rightful owner of the account will receive the email with the question about the auction. This will alert them that their account has been hijacked and they will contact eBay to shut it down before the theif can profit.

4. Set up a Paypal account and be safe with it.

A. Never click on hyperlinks in emails that you might receive from eBay or Paypal. If you receive an email from either compay, close the email and log onto the websites directly. If eBay or Paypal really sent the message, you will see it in the messages section of either site, respond to it there.
NEVER CLICK HYPERLINKS IN THESE EMAILS!!!!

B. ALWAYS PAY WITH A CREDIT CARD WHEN USING PAYPAL. Paypal's buyer protection is a joke. If you are ever ripped off (and I have been a couple of times) and you used a bank transfer to pay for something with Paypal, you are basically screwed. The only thing Paypal can do to try to recover your money is to transfer it back out of the seller's Paypal account into yours. If the seller has already withdrawn all the funds from his account, Paypal will just freeze the sellers's account until you get your money (which is never). all you will get is a lame email from Paypal politely say tuff luck.

If you use your credit card to fund the Paypal payment, you are not lost. If you do not receive your item you purchased, simply call (or email) your credit card company and dispute the charge. Your credit card company is on your side and they will simply revers the charge leaving Paypal with the loss. Maybe if this happens enough times,Paypal will find a way to fix their worthless buyer protection.

If you see a really good deal on something but are are not sure if it is legit after using the guidelines above, send the seller an email and wait for a respose. If it seems too good a deal to be true, it usually is.

I can save on average 20 to 40 percent off retail items (sometimes more but I am very careful when the prices are that low) on average.

You can get good deals on e bay, and you can get some not so good ones. If you are buying a car, ask questions and if possible, go and look at the vehicle prior to bidding. Remember that you have to pay to ship (or drive) the car home, and most are sold as is!

Check the sellers feedback. Look for sellers who have been around a while.

Just as in real life, buying on the Internet has risks. Protect yourself!

Sometimes. Just depends on what you're looking for and how many others have found the same listing you're wanting to bid on. Ebay is a good place to find things that you can't find anywhere else.

I do however most people are stupid. Some will pay full retail price, plus shipping and handling, simply because they don't do research.
