The spaying and neutering usually occur at about the same time that the cat is maturing and not as active as when it was a kitten so the cats continues to eat a lot and is less active. I honestly feel it isn't at all related to their "operations".

A cat will become obese if it eats food (grocery store) that is 2/3 corn. You are well aware of the effect of high-calorie food and lack of physical activity does to humans.

There is an excellent article on feline obesity at www.ThePetCenter.com.

I have 2 neutered kittens. The male looks like Shamu at 9 months. He must be tipping the scales at 10 pounds or more. The female is probably no more than 6 pounds, probably because she can be somewhat hyperactive. She is too thin for her frame. It's impossible to separate food at this time or I would starve her or make him feel slighted and he would get neurotic. Now that the weather's getting chilly here, Shamu is even less likely to spend more than 5 minutes outside at a time.

No i got my cat done and he is as slim as ever and he eats like a horse too. I see that some have said that if it is a house cat it will not true my cat has been done for a long time now and he is fine i think it might depend on the cat. a true sorce is ask your vet. And let you cat eat when he wants i have never seen a healthy cat over eat.

Yes if you dont measure his food I have three cats and both my male cats were nuetered and my girl cat was spayed and they have gained quite a bit of weight but I dont have to worry about kittins from my girl and I dont have to worry about my male cats spraying because that will stink up your home quick.

In many cases the answer is yes. I have six cats, all neutered or spayed. Three of them stayed slim, and three gained weight. It's generally a good idea to cut back on the amount you feed them after they are neutered or spayed, and keep an eye on their weight to make sure it doesn't increase too much.

I had a tom cat and we had him fixed...Afterwards he did become a large cat! So yea sometimes they do that's why we're reluctant about the dog..One problem is testicular cancer too if they are not fixed and bred @ least once..

only if you stop playing with them and let them eat all the time. Keep playing with them, if you feel that he's getting a little heavy, reduce his food a little. Activity is the key.
