How are you sure it's not strep? If you are having a really hard time swallowing (even swallowing your own saliva) then it very well could be a mild case of strep throat for which you'll need antibiotics because no otc or home remedy will work. Try gargling with a half a teaspoon of salt dissolved in very warm water. Also use Chloraseptic sore throat spray. It only relieves the symptoms for a very short time. Some people swear by taking 3 tbsp of apple cider vinegar and mixing it with 8 oz of warm water and gargling with that also.

This is a very simple answer and will give you quick help to reliever your problem. Go to any drug store and over the counter purchase you some chloraseptic sore throat spray and take you a couple of tylenol and you will heal quickly. The quicker you get to the drug store, healing will start right away.

I have had those in my lifetime and they are horrible, the one remedy that has always helped is hot tea (your favorite) mixed with honey, then take aspirin or the equvilant. Try this at least 3 times a day. The tea and honey are important because they soothe the throat pain! Hope you feel better!

Gargle with warm salt water. It really works. Also you can use that throat spray, even though it is past the expiration date. It won't be as effective, but it won't hurt you. Hope you feel better.Salt has alot of healing qualities.

Try gargling with warm salt water frequently during the day. It will help the soreness for a while after you gargle.

This is gross, but it actually works. Take a glass of water and warm it up a little. Add a teaspoon of salt and gargle with it. It tastes like crap but when you spit it out - it numbs your throat and you will feel better - trust me try it!
