Bible verses to ponder

Deu 18:9-14 (KJV)
When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee,
thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
{10} There shall not be found among you any one that
maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire,
or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
{11} Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits,
or a wizard, or a necromancer.
{12} For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD:
and because of these abominations
the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

{13} Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.
{14} For these nations, which thou shalt possess,
hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners:
but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

1 Th 5:21-23 (KJV)
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
{22} Abstain from all appearance of evil.

I agree with you. I don't judge other Christians for celebrating Halloween but as a Christian I have decided that my family and I will not celebrate it. As Christians we are supposed to be seperate and cast off evil not embrace and celebrate it.

I'm a christian and I totally follow the principles in the Bible. I can see your point in presenting Deuteronomy 18:9 but I don't agree with your take on it in using it against holidays. The way I look at it there's a good and bad in most everything... Halloween is a time where some people use it to celebrate a dark religeon and others use it as an excuse to dress up like a gorilla and fill a sack full of candy. Same thing with Christmas. Some people celebrate the birth of Christ and others have their houses decorated with 5 million santa clauses and don't even aknowledge it has a Biblical basis. I guess it's all in the condition of your heart and what your intentions are. Personally I'm glad there is something like dressing up, etc. to take away from the scary-ness of Halloween. Just my thoughts... take 'em or leave 'em.

You can't take an evil custom and make it respectable and expect
that the Father would acknowledge this type of worship, it pure ignorance. Cain tried to worship the Father in his own ways and it was not accepted. The Savior said that man does not live by bread alone but by every word (commandment or law) that proceedeth out of the mouth of Yahweh.

When will man learn, or even believe?

Galatians 5:9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

Keep the Laws of Yahweh strictly

I am the daughter of a minister, and even as a child, I was allowed to participate in halloween activities. Our church youth group would hold halloween parties, and fun was always had by all.

I think that we take this holiday waaaaaaaaaaaay too serious. Neither with me, nor my children, nor my grandchildren, were we/I ever been taught that this is a "evil" holiday. It is ONLY what we make it. And, as long as we "Christians" think of it that way, that's the way it will continue to be.

I have now heard the argument that we shouldn't be celebrating Christmas, because it was originally based around the winter soltice. We've taken Santa Clause and turned him into something evil....we've tried to eliminate the Easter Bunny from our childrens lives and goodness....not to mention those eveil little creatures, tooth "faries". When it is ever gonna stop?!!!! Personally, I feel that we are stealing these special moments away from our children, robbing their childhood of so many wonderful memories, many that I as an adult also have of my childhood. We've taken the innocence and fun out of being a child. I think it is very very sad!

Halloween isn't going to go away, so I think one of the most effective things we can do is offer alternative, Christ-centered activities on Oct. 31 and invite our friends, neighbors and coworkers. If I didn't have to work on Halloween night, I'd be heading to hear a couple Christian rock bands that are playing. I've been compiling a list of suggestions from people the past few years--check out the first link below.

a couple of things, the origin of Halloween comes from different religious festivals and Wicca beliefs. so regarding the bible Gods people are not to get involved with false religion. God does not tolerate it!!! Second Jesus also gave everyone a principle,, that we are not to be part of the world. so partying and stuff with unbelievers is wrong for Christians... The apostle Paul also told this principle to the churches.. So one it has false religious roots as to its celebrations,, it is done usually by weak or unbelieving Christians , and you can look at the bible and see if you are loosing Gods favor... need i say more?? i guess so..
it is regarding the celebration ,,, drunkenness and immoral practices are surrounded by this and similar type of festivals that include Christmas, new years and so on.... don't believe me read your bible.. mannnnnnn

i think that if we are called into Gods light why would we participate in a day that glorifies the darkness?

these scriptures helped me make my choice

Passage Mark 7:13:
13Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that."

Passage Ephesians 5 :

6Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7Therefore do not be partners with them.

8For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10and find out what pleases the Lord. 11Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret

It is amazing that some who consider themselves Christian admit that Halloween is steeped in paganism, but they will celebrate it anyway. "What's wrong with getting candy at Halloween or dressing up in cute little costumes? There is no harm done." True Christians avoid Halloween and all other pagan holidays no matter how much "fun" they appear.

I consider it to be a Pagan holiday. Halloween used to be the day to celebrate Christian martyrs. But then people started dressing up as ghosts, monsters, etc. on All Hallow's Eve, which is now Halloween. From then on Halloween has developed into a Pagan holiday.

I don't like Halloween. Although it comes originally from Pagan holidays, then was modified to All Hallows Eve, it's just not the holiday for me. I don't think children really need all that candy. But, for most kids, it's just dressing up and getting candy - there is no malevolence involved.
