Why clone when there are other pets available in need of the same love and care? Even though I miss my old pet, I wouldn't want to repeat her image as it will take on a different personality. In turn, this would change or affect my view about my original pet. I wouldn't want that. Leave it as it may be. Don't clone. We're already crowded as it is. The memory of the old pet is good enough. Move on.

Tough question.
I have 2 cats and 2 dogs. While I love them all there is only one I can truthfully say that I wish I could clone.
From the time he was a pup I knew he was special. He's very intelligent. And before he was a year old I noticed he was calmly walking up to groups of dogs of various sizes at the dog park and they'd spread out around him. He'd just stand there while they all sniffed and greeted him before they'd all play.
He shares his food and toys and seems particularly watchful over puppies and older dogs.
Sadly,we had to have him neutered due to a locked testicle. As much as we wanted another just like him we would'nt run the risk of him getting cancer or passing his deformity on.
He's 4 now and I can still see the sadness in his eyes over the surgery altho he's otherwise a happy, healthy dog.
We got him a playmate whom he's raised.I've done little to train the new male cos he's done it all pretty much.He lets him play at being the alpha male but now that ones 2 and starting to push a little too far on occasion and he quickly and effectively puts him in his place. But mostly he seems to show dominance without using force.
I was informed by a breeder who also frequents the park we go to daily that he is a true alpha male and they are very rare.
I don't know anything about that but I know that this ones irreplaceable and I'm going to be crushed when he goes.

Wayne is right their was a company that did just that, in their entire time in business they cloned two pets, cats, for $50,000. when they were going through bankruptcy they dropped the price to $30,000. however the reason they went out of business wasn't so much the lack of demand, it was the fact that cloning was so much more expensive then what they could charge. before the two cats were successfully cloned many of their previous clones were horribly disfigured and died, they went through many of the cats clones before they got it right. seems kind of cruel doesn't it?

If they want I suppose, but, cloning them just makes them look the same, the personality may be completely different than the original dog...

they ARE allowed to, and until recently there was a company that would do that for you (for big bux), but nobody wanted to have it done (nobody wanted their pets cloned (or not enough people did)), so the company just went out of business.
