Another great question; I have a book you may be interested in. It's called Ecstatic Religion. It studies and compares, from Catholicism, Christian, Sufi, etc... and looks into the aspects of trance, exorcism, you name it as a form of control. I included a link for you if you'd like to take a look and decide for yourself. I'm not sure if there is any other site that may have it at a lesser cost, I never really looked. But it is worth reading and owning.

It's the same reason that when gourmets choose a steak, they almost always go for it rare. Flavour.

Belief and fear and guilt are absolutely delicious to demons with a mind to try a little possession. (The Devil himself never usually bothers with all that palaver, preferring guest appearances for the superstar status they carry). In fact there's a six-month waiting-list in Hell to get a Catholic. You can almost hear the muttering from here.

"Right you lot, line up, let's see what we've got here. Right, who's got number 6447?"
"That's me!"
"Congratulations...you'll be possessing Derek Phipps, an experimental Buddhist from Des Moines, Iowa."
"Aw crap! C'mon, what kind of possession is that for my resume?"
"Sorry pal, take it or leave it. Now who's 6448?"
"Me!"
"Not bad - Shelley Mackintyre, WASP virgin in California."
"Cool...but...I mean..."
"Don't push your luck alright, just be grateful you ain't with Buddhaboy!"
"Fine...yeah..."
"Alrighty, 6449?"
"Yep!"
"Know what we have for you? Only a prime, juicy, guilt-ridden Catholic boy from Connemara, that's what!"
"Oh YEAH! So long suckers, see you on the other side!"

Any demon worth their salt will be able to have much more fun with a Catholic than any other denomination - it's the combination of sensual imagery and undiluted guilt that does it - it kinda makes you the Ferrari of the demon-possession world. Still, at least it gets you noticed ;o)

Actually, I recently saw a TV show featuring exorcisms, and many of the "possessed" participants were actually Fundamentalists. And there are any number of Fundamentalist ministers who claim to be exorcists (I think even Bob Larson's doing exorcisms these days). Also, there is an Anglican priest who believes he's an exorcist. So it's not just the Catholics, although that's still a popular media stereotype.

Only Catholics really believe in the Devil and accept that he can still "get" us. Others have a false sense of security and think that just because Christ redeamed us to God, that the Devil can no longer harm our bodies.
They prescribe medicine, thinking the problem is schitzophrenia, or bi-polar, or delusional, etc.

What's even more amazing is that demons fear Catholic Clergy (and Eastern Orthodox presumably) conducting exorcisms because they are validly ordained.
