A cake will only collapse while baking if 1) it experiences heavy vibrations while baking, 2) it is of a variety that calls for it to have a) large air pockets, b) larger amounts than usual of leavening agents c) a lower gluten percentage than usual, or 3) is made incorrectly so that any combination of a,b or c of number 2 is true.

If none of the above is true then the cake shouldn't collapse.

Have a sturdier floor or surface. Don't release the cake from the fan until completely cooled then it will stay together. When it is hot the moisture just collapses it.

Try Betty Crocker or you can just use duct tape. It might not any longer be edible though!

If I knew the answer to this question, my mother wouldn't have had a nervous breakdown when I was a kid. I guess you either lock all the doors or tie your kids up until the cake is done.

Is that even a concern anymore?

It's just that I never have had a cake fall on me in 40 or so years, either when I make it or when others make it

It won't fall unless a REALLY big noise or vibration occurs. I've baked a lot of cakes, and I've never had one fall (and I have a couple kids and a husband who likes to yell and pretend to be a monster to "scare" our kids... don't worry, they love it).
