When I shouted his name he gave no response. We gave him tea. I phoned up my doc. and he asked us to give suger and juice. This was all four hours ago. Now he is sleeping and the doc. told us to let him sleep for couple of hours. Doc. has also told us not to scold him when he comes to senses. How should the patients who get high in such a way be treated?

umm if he gave no response when you shouted his name I can asume he is not concious? If this is the case, you should not be giving him ANYTHING by mouth because he will choke. Most likely, he just has a bad hangover. I would check on him every now and then and note his breathing each time. He probably just needs to sleep it off. I'm assuming since he is an 18 year old male he is not extrodianarily small so 8 glasses of beer will most likely not give him alcohol poisining. .. just wait it out.

As far as talking to him about this when he wakes up I wouldn't even be too concerned about that. He probably regrets his decision since he felt so terrible. Yeah, he'll probably drink again... just like the majority of 18 year olds (which is why your talk won't do much). However, he may be a little more cautious to not make himself feel that way again. If you say anything at all, I would just tell him how worried it made you to see him in that condition.

I know your son is 18 and technically an adult; however you are still the parent. The biggest danger of getting drunk is that eventually a few drinks will lead to way to many and when drunks get behind the wheel they are loaded weapons. Get tough on this incident; gather all the information you can on how drunk driving have ruined peoples lives. Does he want to lose his license or worse spend most of he life in prison for taking ones life while driving drunk. As far as your son being unresponsive he is drunk and he almost fainted because he is dehydrated. You may opt to take him to an ER if he is insured; they will give him IV fluids to re-hydrate him and also anti-emetics (to stop the vomiting). If you dont take him to the ER he will get over this but make sure he gets hydrated; gatorade is a good way to hydrate.

he was probably severely dehydrated and had low blood sugar.

beer is a diuretic which means-it cause the kidneys to produce more urine which causes the body to lose more fluid than it should. severe dehydration causes vomiting, dizziness, and sometimes fainting.

low blood sugar can also cause dizziness, sweats, and fainting.

alcohol poisoning is very dangerous and he could have gotten that as well.

explain the dangers of drinking too much to him. too much alcohol causes liver damage.

let him sleep it off and hopefully the nasty hangover he wakes up with will teach him a lesson!!

#1: underage drinking is illegal
#2: if you vomit, its a sign of alcohol poisoning
#3: if you want to punish him, go for it... if you don't, he'll think its ok to drink like that again and maybe next time will be sicker than this time... its up to you to make him realize not that drinking is bad, but that drinking until you vomit has EXTREME health risks (such as alcohol poisoning) which can be deadly.

A lot of water and potatoes. The oxidation of alcohol has several steps, the first is to an aldehyde (like formaldehyde). This oxidizes slowly so there is a buildup in he body, the faster you drink and the more you drink, the more it builds up. This process consumes water and somehow potatoes neutralize the by-product.

You should wait to talk to him about the whole thing until he's over his hangover. Don't yell at him, but be firm. He does need some sort of discipline. He should most definitely be grounded for a while. Maybe you should make him earn back privileges.

the doctor is right dont scold him....he will probably feel bad enough when he comes to and realize that what he did was really stupid he doesnt need you enforcing it......That doesnt mean that you have to baby him....let him deal with his pain himself....if he complains all you have to say is "I guess you'll think about that before you drink alcohol like that again" and then walk away...he will get the hint that you disapprove of what he did without the "I told you so" attitude.

Simple-it is called a hangover. And I know you arent telling the whole story because the Dr. would not let you have him sleep for a couple of hours. You want to make him stay awake, and make him cut the grass or do a chore while he still feels like hell. Plus, sugar and juice only elevate the blood sugar level. Moron. Dont jack with us about this issue!

There is no treatment for it, only time. This is the problem of people who binge drink, if you want to do that as a life style, be prepared to face the consequence.

Sounds like he had a good time. ;)

Seriously, it just sounds like he got too much alcohol in his system. You should give him a warm glass of milk to vomit all the beer in his system. Then have him drink water and then time is required. The body must drain out all the remaining alcohol in his system. Then kick his *** later.
