It's 5 days past the expiration date and you're asking this question. This is funny to me.
Does it smell sour? Oh wait....it's SOUR cream.....my bad!
If you're really that worried then toss it and buy a new tub.
Unless it's a special limited edition sour cream. Then I'd put it in the freezer and save it for a special occassion.Maybe something such as the high-holiday I like to call "The Feast of Maximum Occupancy".Maximum Occupancy is what your bathroom will experience if you serve any dish containing that same sour cream!

If it has been kept below 40 degrees, it's probably okay - but I wouldn't trust it if it's been out at room temperature for more than an hour. If you cook with it - that is, use it in a dish where the internal temperature gets to around 145 degrees for at least ten minutes - you'll kill any bacteria that might have started to grow. But if it's obviously spoilt - as in, it has nasty-looking curds in it, or it appears to have separated, and/or has a foul odor - throw it out! Eating spoilt sour cream can give you one mother of a bellyache and send old men and small children to the emergency room!

What year??? I'm not sure about what the date on sour cream means. There are certain foods, such as cereal, where it's "Best By" date, and others that you're not supposed to eat/ drink after the date stamp.

I'd say it'd be okay, as long as it's been unopened in the fridge. Once you open something, it's shelf-life decreases.

generall expiration dates are just a guideline for the grocery stores to have it out of the stores take milk and eggs for example as long as they are refrigerated they can be eaten for about a week after the expiration date. just smell the sour cream check to see if it's got anything gross growing on it :P taste a tiny bit to see if it tastes funky.

first off HOW sour can the sour cream get ? ? ?

but really now..if it is excessively wet and runny..NO forget it.
it will always have some runniest to it..but to much..no good

second ..does it smell OK...

third...taste just tiny bit of it..how does it taste?

and those dates have a few days past where you can use it...but this is going on 6 days from that date...so maybe this time..seeing it is almost week past ..I would say no..
sorry...

good luck

I think it's good for about 1 to 2 weeks after the date. Look at it first. If there's nothing growing on it, try a smell and taste test. If it tastes fine, go ahead and use it.

Yes, anything dairy (like milk, sour cream, yogurt, etc.) is still good 7 days after the expiration date.

Yes it can. Iknow this sounds really gross but my grandmother still uses sour cream from 2004. She cooked for us using it all the time and one day sombody noticed the date and freaked out. She said " I use it all the time and it hasn't killed any of you yet."

Most likely. That date is a rough guideline. I'd just make sure it smells good and taste a little bit. If it tastes good, it's still fine.
