During intercourse I wanted to know whether I can rely on a condom with spermicide to keep my girl friend from becoming pregnant. Last time I had intercourse I used a condom with spermicide in it, and I also pulled out before ejaculation. Would birth control pills be too far of overkill, or is what I am doing already, not good? My girl friend is unsure and wants to make sure she is not pregnant...i hope someone can help

I was on the pill for years, and they work great, as long as you remember to take them pretty much every day. Otherwise, you're in for trouble, unless you use condoms or some other BC when they're forgotten. That wasn't my problem, but the pill always made it hard for me to lose weight.

We now just use condoms and have never had any issues, as long as they're put on correctly. Just be careful pulling out after ejaculation. ALSO, condoms are the recommended form of birth control because of the possibility of sexually transmitted disease, if you aren't in a committed relationship. (Married, or nearly so, preferably.)

Spermicide reduces the chances that she will get pregenant to 99.99%. Birth Control would be overkill and would put her in a mood similar to her period. Thats what Birth Control does. It confuses the female body to think its already pregnant. There is no 100% chance to guarentee that she will not get pregnant.

For 6yrs me and my boyfriend used the condoms w/spermicide and no problems. I never used the pill or anything else. Only condoms and no problems. I would say your fine, Now if one broke then you have issues but we never had this problem and I think them breaking is slim...

If she is worried about it then she needs to get on the pill

if you used a condom with spermicide, then you should be ok. birth control would also help, but as long as your using condoms every time, then it's not really necessary. but better safe than sorry.

Multiple methods are best - since the odds of a combined failure are lower then a single method. If she can't medically take BC pills, then some of the other barrier methods are nearly as effective and less of an issue for most people.

Well - to be brutally honest, the ONLY way to keep her from getting pregnant is to not have sex. However - what you're doing sounds like it should be reasonable. Depending on her family history and lifestyle habits (smoking, etc.) birth control pillls might not be the best idea. But the way it is, you should be fine.

Nothing is 100% effective, but the pill is the best option. But you you are not ready to take on the responsibilities of parenthood try abstaining. Mother nature rules and if you can't afford the consequences don't play the game...It's kind of like Russian Roulette
