I consider myself a modern pagan, but I have only once delved into the rituals and celebration of Samhain. My birthday is actually ON Halloween. Can you reccomend a general, practical, way to celebrate Samhain and the modern day Halloween together without too much confusion? I am open to all SERIOUS suggestions and references.

I normally reflect on the past year, remember friends and family who have passed on. I don't do a lot of the ritual stuff, though I do light candles (color specific for what I want) and focus on what needs to be done the following year.

Since it's your birthday though... I'd suggest having your fave meal with some wine (or drink of choice) and then enjoy the Halloween festivities until later where you can do your "pagan thing" (as my hub calls it) afterwards. Then it won't feel like such a rush on you and you can enjoy the day.

Happy B-Day. Merry Samhain.

So am I, I have not actually researched Samhain. Sounds like it would be a fun party though. Happy birthday by the way.

It's not confusing. If you're going trick or treating, set up your ancestor altar before you go out and make an offering of some of your candy. If you're having friends over for dinner, set a place for the ancestors.

throw a party and have an altar set up to honor the dead--they sell bags of tealights cheap so make sure you pick up a lot and anyone who wishes to honor someone in the spirit realm, can just light one--make it a big altar too, like a folding card table or something
