If you want to keep the photo for a long time you need to get it printed by a dye sublimation or laser process. If you use ink jet printing it will fade quite rapidly - a few months at best - and the cost of the canvas will be lost. Also if it really is canvas the ink will both soak in and the chemicals in the canvas will have a bad effect on the colours.
Also home type printers tend to be A4 which is very small for a canvas print. An A3 printer costs around £500 for an ink jet goodness knows what for a dye sub:
Sorry but for a few prints a commercial operation - and there are several - is cheapest and most long lasting.

The best way to do this would be to get the picture printed on digital vinyl. You need to find a printer that has vinyl with sticker backing. Place application tape on the front of the printed image. When you apply it to the canvas, use tape and "hinge it to the canvas. Pull the backing of to show the sticker side and rub on with a credit card. If you spray the adhesive side with water first, you will ensure that the adhesive doesnt stick to the wrong spots or itself. Use the credit card to squeege the water from underneath the viynl. Remove the application tape. If you dont want to do all this, you can take your artwork to a sign shop and they can place and print for you.

Depends on what size canvases you want to print!

If you only want up to A3 in size, your best bet is to get a good inkjet printer that can print on canvas. HP, Epson, something like that. If you use decent (branded) canvas and UV inks, they should stay lightfast for 70 years+.

If you want to do bigger prints, you'd need to get a large-format inkjet or dye sublimation printer, again from HP or Epson. These start at about £10k tho... If you only want one or two large prints, you're better off speaking to a company like Pixel Outpost (in the US: www.pixeloutpost.com) or Photobloc (in the UK: www.photobloc.com) if you don't want to splash out on a £10k printer!
