Ok, the answer, like so much in life is: yes and no. ; )

Boot Camps Do Not work on everyone. They can be very effective if they are used on the correct individuals. The problem is, not very many offenders meet the criteria to successfully complete Boot Camp and stay out of prison thereafter. For the few that do, it is a very effective alternative to prison.

The problem with the rest of the offenders is that they do not think like we do. There is a set of books by Samuel Yochelson and Stanton Samenow "Criminal Thinking", I believe, that first put forth this theory. The books are supported by ten years of research, and as a Correctional Officer, I have found it to be true in my dealings with offenders.

The "criminal thinker" does not respond to punishment like you or I. They see a 3 month Boot Camp as a freebie...as a quicker way back to the street than a 60 month standard sentence.

So, the answer is: for those who meet the criteria, yes, it is effective. For those who do not, it is a waste of time. Boot Camps are a great program, used wisely. They are not a "silver bullet" that works for everyone.

Boot Camps may be tough, but going to war is alot tougher. They need that type of training and with the attitude of some of these kids today; it wouldn't hurt to throw them into Boot Camp, also.

Look up how many kids that went through boot camp changed for the better, and if so, for how long?

Well, being physically exhausted tires the mind and makes them more receptive to new concepts. I've seen it work for problem kids I know and it seems to me that it's the endorphins kicking in as they're being rehabilitated that makes it effective.

I thinkl that it allows teens who have no direction in life a chance to realize that they do not want to lead a life of crime. I also believe in tent city the prison in AZ where all inmates wear pink and eat cheese sandwhiches.
