Where are you getting your information?
Remember that in China, dogs are considered food and not members of the family, so their attitudes are different from those of the West. Not that it excuses it, but just something to consider.
Besides, there are far better ways to euthanize these dogs.
And don't kid yourself. People get rabies. Action has to be taken to protect the public as well as the animal control workers.

Of course not. For one thing dogs aren't even the most likely animal to carry the disease and for another it is very easy to prevent. The problem is no one over there vaccinates their dogs, meaning a higher percentage of them get rabies than dogs in other countries. Still, it is fairly easy to tell if your dog is rabid and even if they must be euthanized there are much nicer ways then clubbing them to death. Really they should be looking to control the vermin population. Rats, stray cats, and other small animals are probably what is causing the epidemic,

Bonsylar- she got her information from the news, I'm assuming. China did not have an inoculation program, many dogs ended up with rabies, the Chinese government freaked out and decided they had made a horrible mistake and took care of the problem swiftly and brutally. instead of taking responsibility for the government failure, police were instructed to beat dogs to death with a weapon similar to the batons that American police use. that's right, no bullet, no euthanasia, pets were ripped away from people who were simply out walking their dogs and beaten to death right in front of them. it was estimated that china beat 20,000 dogs to death in 3 days. many Americans are boycotting Chinese products because of this brutality.
And you are wrong, china views dogs more and more as pets these days, and most Chinese in china have a pet dog.

OMG, this is the first I have heard of this. Of course it is not okay. Why would someone do that, that is just cruel. Maybe they need to think, if there was a disease break out that affected the humans, like oh maybe bird flu, should we start beating them brutally.

its NEVER OK 2 beat a dog it's not the dog's fault.
there is a much more humane way 2 put the dog 2 sleep peacefully and painlessly, OK i know the dog is dangerous but as i said its not the dog's fault.

I'm a big dog lover and I'm sure this is not necessary

Yeah, this is really sick, since they didn't even try to start an innoculation program (in the us we innoculate wild population with carcasses injected with drugs) and instead beat pet dogs in front of children and their families.
