I'am currently trying to decide which city in So Cal that I want to live in when I get out of the Navy in a year and a half. I'am currently stationed in San Diego, and I love it here, but I'am not liking the people so much. It seems like everyone in San Diego is a "Bay Area" transplant and they are all smug about living here. Many people here are rude, stuck-up, and selfish transplants from Nor Cal that try to fit a false So Cal stereotype. I'am also tired of the military scene. Despite LA's horrible traffic, pollution, and it's fair share of crime (at least in some areas anyway), I like it there. Especially West LA, Santa Monica, and Venice. It feels very different than San Diego. I feel like I can be myself there. The people are real and suprisingly friendly. If they don't like you, they say so, unlike in SD. Plus there is so much to do, and I could get a better quality education (at schools such as USC and UCLA) than I could at most colleges in SD. What should I do? Please help.

I grew up in Los Angeles area{El Segundo,by LA.X},I now live in Ohio and I miss CA bad and it's been 25 years! San Diego is probably more "desirable" in it's looks, but I agree that L.A. is more open and friendly. It's actually the "native" L.A. folks that are more nice. The transplants for some reason, are all status oriented. I'd choose L.A. if you care more about people and friendships! I wish I was making that choice!!

Wow, you must seriously rub people the wrong way in San Diego. People who live there are soo laid back. That is crazy. You must be hanging out with the wrong people. I can't believe you would actually consider moving to LA. It is definitely WORSE. Traffic, smog, crime, conjestion, weirdos, etc, will definitely make people more hostile and rude. Have you even been to Venice lately? It isn't the old fun Venice. It is dirty and gross. Why would you want to sit in traffic for 45 minutes just to go two stop lights?? Why live in the ghetto when you can live in paradise?? Maybe you are living in the wrong part of San Diego. Try Del Mar, Solana Beach, Carlsbad, Encinitas or Leucadia. Get away from the big city. :)

LA is a city of pretense. Most people are judged by the car they drive, where they live and how much money they make
I prefer San Diego. It has better weather, less traffic, and the cost of living is reasonable
Also, SD has great schools like UCSD and San Diego State
People in LA will ignore you if you don't meet their standards
If you want plastic people in a plastic world, move to Los Angeles

It sounds like you have already made your decision...lol Being from Central Cali myself I really love the Central Valley and Bay Area transplants are not that bad at all. It still is just over an hour away from San Francisco, just over an hour from Yosemite, and then again just a couple of hours from Monterey. So I must confess I like where I am too =) Prayers =) My bro-in-law has moved here with my sister and he retired from Navy (hint, hint) There is Stanislaus State and UC Merced....

Not everyone in San Diego are like that, bro. Maybe you should check out different areas of the city.

I don't know if this helps, but San Diego has much better beaches, and warmer ocean water. Both areas have great scenic diversity. If you are so inclined, check out the area of Julian.

I made the mistake of moving to LA once. It was a horrible experience. Everyone is so fake and always out for themselves. It's so "hey, everyone, look at me" or "look at what I have". Visiting a place is very different from actually living there.

After about a week on L.A., you'll be crying for San Diego.
