Let me tell you a story. I'm an old woman of 59. When I was 14, I had a boyfriend who was 17. My parents felt the same way as your girlfriend's parents do. Well, we did see each other, in the company of our other friends, to pacify my parents, and later on we dated for six years. We ended up going our separate ways. However, even now, we still see each other now and again.

So, to answer your question, two years is and always has been a LOT when you are teenagers. I can't tell you why, because, as
you age, it sure becomes less important!

But my thought is this: if you are really as serious about this girl as you sound, you don't want to disrespect her parents at this stage. If you ended up marrying her, you would want a good relationship with them for the duration of that marriage. And if you met at church, I would remind you of that Commandment: Honour Thy Father and Mother.

This doesn't mean you can't see her ever; it just means that the parents would be happier if it was in a group setting. Surely you could abide by that for a while? The benefits of doing so would last a life time! Linda

Hmmm. 2 yrs can be pretty big when you're a teen. The gap between a 13 yr olds behaviour/understanding/maturity, etc. and a 15 yr old is huge compared to the difference between a 23 and 25 yr old for example. Just respect her parents wishes. What would really blow them away was if you asked to sit down and talk with them about why they feel the way they do. That would build their respect for you.

i think that it is ok, i bet if you ask her parents and your parents how old they are you will find that the man is 2 to 7 years older than the woman. That is the case all the time, maybe you should talk to them face to face and tell them that you respect their daughter and that you will not do anything to hurt her, also remember to bring up their age difference and let them know that all will be ok. Parents always say that the kids don't talk to them, well talk to them

I hate it when parents do this!!! jeez.....well, I am sorry to say this, but if you really love this girl like you say you do, talk to her parents and ask them what age she would have to be to date you. What they think can not be changed, and dating her behind their backs can back-fire and it would crush both you and this girl. Good luck!

(PS- my b/f in a yr and a half older then me, and I met him at church as well! and my best friends b/f if 4 yrs older!!! jeez, I just can't figure out why her parents can just be so....MEAN! sry about that....again, good luck!)
