Can you get old info off of your credit report after you settle accounts? How long does it take for the creditors to take off the payments you paid off?

If the accounts were delinquent or charged-off, the record can stay on your credit report for 7 years, starting from the date it was first reported as delinquent.

Some creditors will remove the tradeline since you paid it off. Call them and ask to talk with someone in management. If you get the run-around, find out who the President is and write him or her.

I can't promise these events will work, but it's worth a try.

All the accounts blemishes and all (late payments, charge-offs, collections) will stay there legally paid or not. You need to dispute them online or in writing and hope they get deleted. The key to good credit is to get rid of the negative references all together not just that they are paid off. I know it sounds counterintuitive. But I had collection accounts that had huge balances on them one week, paid off the next and my credit score barely moved. It only got better with deletions and time.

It is very entailed and will take a lot of your time to clean it up. Been there, done that. consumers.creditnet.com is a fantastic message board to get you started on rebuilding your credit and your life. I am officially on the other side now. It took me 2 years but I went from a FICO that was as low as 580 at one point to a 735 last week.

Good luck. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Credit activity can stay on record for about 7 years, but the accounts should show paid, which will give you a better debt to income ratio (what lenders look at).
Get your free annual credit report and then they will answer questions relative to specific accounts.

Please keep in mind that you can request that the paid accounts be removed, but not all agencies will remove an item simply because it's paid.

That should have been part on the settelment. You have to ask them to remove it from your credit file
