I believe in offering what is in my heart to give, but tithing?

First of all, the premise I'm trying to shed light on is about TITHING (10 percent of income) VS. GIVING.

Tithing is an Old Testament concept. The tithe was a requirement of the law in which all Israelites were give 10% of everything they earned and grew to the Tabernacle / Temple (Leviticus 27:30; Numbers 18:26; Deuteronomy 14:24; 2 Chronicles 31:5). Some understand the Old Testament tithe as a method of taxation to provide for the needs of the priests and Levites of the sacrificial system. The New Testament nowhere commands, or even recommends that Christians submit to a legalistic tithe system. Paul states that believers should set aside a portion of their income in order to support the church (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).

The New Testament nowhere assigns a certain percentage of income to set aside, but only says it is to be “in keeping with his income” (1 Corinthians 16:2).

If you are having doubts as to how much you should give, consider this passage: 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 "But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver."

As Christians, we should give. But we are free to choose the amount of offering to give to God. If it is more than a tithe (ten percent) or less than a tithe it is acceptable to God, if it is from the cheerful heart without compulsion.

I believe we are supposed to tithe our income according to what scripture says. If you look in the beginning of the Bible, the covenant with man has always been grace. The old testament has not been abolished just because Christ came. He came to fullfill the law.

Not to mention, I believe in Timothy, it says that we are to take care of our pastors. Part of what you give goes to them. My husband is a pastor. He goes above and beyond 40 hours in service to God as the shepard of our church. What He puts into this ministry is far more wearing than any job he has ever had because he is putting his heart and soul into it. There are times family time has to be sacrificed for kingdom work.

Not to mention foreign missions is where tithe goes also. It is such a vital ministry and a command from Jesus. All of it takes money. It would be a lot easier if it were free.

Well, first off, the tithe came before the Law of Moses. It started with Abraham when God gave him that glorious victory over the kings of the earth. It was a heart-thing beween him and God. And since the Bible does say that Abraham is our father, that we've been grafted in, I believe that the tithe is a sanctified, holy thing.

However, I don't believe we are limited to just the tithe. We can give it all if we like! We're certainly free to do that. :)

im shocked!!!NOOOO i dont believe it!firstly think about it, where does your money go if you give your church all this money??
the bible encourages us to offer what we can afford to!
as one of jehovahs witnesses we give voluntarily what we CAN into a contribution box,its not passed around but there so we can discreetly put in that what we can afford an want to. (im a college student and not exactly earning much but contribute when i can!)the money in turn is given to our head office where all jehovahs witness publications are made, we currently distribute WORLDWIDE in hundreds of languages various information made possible by sometimes miniscule contributions given yet make this worldwide work possible.
i no where my money goes and when i can give more i will because i feel i want ppl to receive this incredible free literature.its changed my whole thats all i can tell you! and
if you dont feel even 1 % content with how your money is organised then search elsewhere, where you feel there is a just cause for contributing that which is even possible to you. im so happy to be part of my organisation and if your not happy with yours then find for yourself an organisation where you feel there is true honesty and not such a huge focus as to how much you should give. i know i have!
i hope this has been a bit of an eye opener! all the Best. josie (from ireland!)

No, I believe it is part of the old covenant that still pertains to today's faith. Malachi 3:10 says that we should bring tithe into the storehouse so that God can bless us with it.

Malachi chapter 3 says will a man rob God ? yet ye have robbed me! but ye say wherein have we robbed thee, In Tithes and offerings!

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse that there may be meat in mine house and prove me now herewith saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.

Tithing is a personal thing between you and God to show your obedience in even financial matters. If it is not something that God has pressed upon you to do, and you feel nothing in your heart about doing so, dont' do it, it's just wasting money.

The same holds true for those who don't eat pork, or wear veils, or whatever your religious custom. You do it because in your heart you want to show God your obedience to Him.

it is reinforced, I recommend the coaching is persisted in the hot testomony. Jesus pronounced, "once you tithe...." assuming we'd. There are different issues pronounced approximately tithing. additionally Luke 6:38 tells that notwithstanding we supply will come back to us in abundance. II Corinthians 8 and 9 let us know approximately giving. seek for first the dominion of God and his righteousness and a majority of those issues (your needs) would be extra unto you (Matt. 6:33). Phil. 4:19 says: "And my God shall grant all your needs in accordance to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." this relies upon on us giving first.

I strongly believe tithing is a guideline, but not a necessity. You give what is in your heart. Just remember, what you give is in thanks to what has been given to you.
