Endometrial cancer?

Question

My mom was recently diagnosed with Endometrial cancer (cancer in the uterus) so she is having surgery to remove her uturus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, lymph nodes, etc.

Luckily they caught it in stage 1 and the doctor at the time said that since it was caught so early he beleived there was a near 100% chance to get rid of it all.

This is all at the Mayo clinic, perhaps the greatest hospital(s) in the world. I began reading up on endometrial cancer so I could know what to expect for her, and in it its saying if caught in stage one, you have about a 5 year survival rate. How can this be?? Does this honestly mean my mom is dieing in 5 years or so, even though they caught it right away and the doctor beleives there is a near 100% chance to get rid of it?

DIET,

Because endometrial cancer is usually diagnosed in the early stages (70 - 75% of cases are in stage 1 at diagnosis, 10 - 15% of cases are in stage 2, 10 - 15% of cases are in stage 3 or 4), there is a better probable outcome associated with it than with other types of gynecological cancers such as cervical or ovarian cancer.

The 5-year survival rate for endometrial cancer following appropriate treatment is:

75 - 95% for stage 1
50% for stage 2
30% for stage 3
Less than 5% for stage 4
your moms doctors are right for stage 1

I had endometrial cancer last year at 31, stage 1b. No, she will not be dying in 5 years or so. You have to remember those are statistics/guidelines stating that most people in her situation and mine survive the 5 years before you are considered cancer free anyway-which in simple terms means she will be not be dying of endometrial cancer now or ever.

1. Cool down, as your mother is not going to die in 5 years.

A 5 year survival rate means - Number of patients remaining alive after 5 years out of 100 patients suffering from the disease. So, if 5 year survival rate is 90%, that means only 10 will die out of 100 , over next five years.

2. How is it possible ? Well... First , investigations reveal that the cancer is in Stage I, i.e. it is limited to the uterus. But after the operation is done, the uterus will be submitted to pathology, and the pathologist will examine it to see if it is truely limited to uterus. If limited to uterus then cure is 100%. If not limited to uterus, then the percentage falls depending in the extent of cancer.

This occurs as because imaging investigations, etc do not give the true pathologic picture, but only an estimate. True picture comes only after pathologist examines the specimen after its removal.

no person will understand till ultimately she has had her scans..the two way its ultimate to correctly known and no count if it is she will combat it and win in basic terms like the final time!!..wish her luck from me..i replaced into there and gained:-)
