Show up on time and in prescribed attire for both rehearsal and wedding day. Stand/walk where they tell you to. Other than that, I don't know that there are any specific bridesmaid duties... I think maid/matron of honor may have some additional responsibilities...

You can certainly offer help for anything the bride might need (run errands, etc.) and try not to be a high-maintenance person (complain, make a fuss, be late, etc.)

It would be nice to throw the bride a shower (as long as you are not her mom or sister) and/or attend a shower for her. You could help plan a bachelorette party for her. You could also help tastefully decorate the new married couple's car after the wedding. At my wedding, this was left to the groomsmen and they basically just put a lot of T.P. all over it and put birdseed in the A/C vents (it was blowing out of there for months afterward)!

Don't forget to buy the couple a gift (you could go in with the rest of the wedding party if you wanted to get some big-ticket item)...

Just a few ideas!

Bridesmaids actually have a number of things to do...it is suggested that the bridesmaids help plan, cohost and pay for the bridal shower and bachelorette party; run last minute errands the day of the wedding as needed; serve as a hostess at the reception to answer any questions; and provide emotional support...it may not seem like any of these are important, but as a wedding planner, I can tell you that they are very important...

NO real duties, they may help with the bridal shower, and if you need alittle bit of help tieing ribbon on to favor boxes, but for the most part they are there to look pretty for your wedding!! The Maid of Honor is the only person who really has duties.
