You have to take the ASVAB to get into the military. The higher your score, the more choice of jobs that will be presented to you. If you don't get a good score you might end up with virtually no choice. Once you are in the military you can take a similar test, actually it's the same but has a different name, to try to earn a higher score and you can "re-class" to a different job. Counter intelligence is a good field to get into, and they have a newer MOS (job) where you fly those radio-controlled spy planes. And right now they are heavily recruiting for those people who have to go in and try to deactivate a bomb, they are giving signing bonuses and you can get promoted pretty quickly if you end up with this job. Try to study, there are lots of good manuals out there. Especially brush up on your math and reading comprehension skills.

everybody believes one job is 'better' than the other. but yes, a higher score will give you a far better chance at getting whatever job you want than a lower score would. if you get over 110 composite scores, you can literally do anything you want.

Absolutely it sure can. My score not only got me in the Air Force, but I was open for any job I chose. I went electronics. I also know a lot of people who couldn't even score high enough to get in the Air Force, you will find many of those in the Army. Sad, but true.
