Hey guys...
I hate feeling left out going out with friends and NOT drinking because of my reactions to alcohol.
I get red and bloaty, mini-hives on my face (which disappears within couple hrs) and a small hay fever.
I've seen other 'alcohol allergy' questions/answers...
But i want to know the PREVENTIONS by eating/drinking something before hand.
(Rumors i've heard was by ingesting pepcid ac, pepto bismol, alka setzer.)
thx in advance =)

I feel bad for you. Maybe you should ty alcoholics annon to see if they can help you. I am not saying that you are an alkie, but listening to some of their strategies may help you.

Be EXTREMELY careful when trying to "work around" your allergies. Products like Benadryll are by no means an allergy cure; they simply mask the symptoms related to the allergy. In most cases, continued exposure to allergens, in your case alcohol, will cause the allergy to worsen.

As is the case with many other food allergies, you run the risk of swelling in places like your tongue and throat, which can cut off your airway.

The actual answer to your question, though, would be Benadryll, or any other antihistamine to block the allergy symptoms. Pepid AC and Alka Seltzer would help with some digestive reactions, but wouldn't do anything for your other symptoms. Also, I wouldn't recommend mixing Benadryll and alcohol, as both can be considered depressants. Not much fun with the friends if you're knocked out by allergy medicine and booze...

i think of you're allergic to a pair factor you would be able to correctly be ingesting in-particular. i might see a doctor and not difficulty approximately what absolutely everyone thinks. additionally a pepcid or pepto would not help those warning signs greater like benadryl for the hay fever and as for hives uncertain approximately that one. i might truthfully keep away from alcohol till you hit upon out why you are trying this - it must be greater severe then you definately think of.

Well, I'm not sure of any preventions. But, why drink JUST because others are? Believe me, I know what you feel... I have a German husband and I'm Type 1 Diabetic. But, I'm actually quite happy about not drinking. Don't do it 'cause of peer pressure or because you feel you want to just because they drink. ;) GL and have a great day.

by no means should you be trusting random people on the internet when dealing with something like this. you don't know what kind of interaction the drugs could have with alcohol. you should ask a doctor instead. or better yet, just don't drink.

Go out with your friends and just order a coke or a seltzer water with lemon, put a cocktail straw in the glass and you're all set.

My best friend is allergic to alcohol, so he takes Benadryll before he drinks...or another comparable off-brand version.
