why are they important, what is the purpose of them???? Details?

If there is an emergency at the school they can lock all the doors so no one can get in or out until the police or other emergency vehicles arrive there. It is a system that has unfortunately come into place since the school shootings in Colorado and Arkansas. Also if the school administrators feel that there is an internal threat to the school such as weapons or drugs they can deny exit to the students until they can alleviate the threat.

If there is ever a threat such as a terrorist outside, the kids will know what to do.
