The tooth is the one next to the wisdom tooth, second from the back. The outer side of it (only 0.5mm thick) has fractured beneath the gum line and is loose. The rest of the tooth seems to be fixed in the socket. What are my options? Is an extraction the only possibility and, if so, what options do I have to replace the tooth? I feel sad that I may lose one of my teeth :-(

A POST/CORE AND CROWN ARE INDICATED IF EXTRACTION IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT.

You will lose the tooth. If the tooth hadn't broke below the gum it could of been saved, that's why the recommend crowns/caps after root canals.
You have the option of a partial but I wouldn't go thru the expense of a bridge because chances are you're gonna lose the wisdom tooth anyway. Most dentist won't bother putting a bridge in that area, attaching it to the wisdom tooth when most wisdom teeth are removed because there too hard to reach for proper cleaning and/or pain.
You could use braces to move the wisdom tooth into the missing molors area, but again that's a big expense. If you're that attached I'd have it pulled and keep it as a keepsake.
Good luck
