it means to me that it is harder to move on from your old ideas to new ones and accept them into your world. it means that old habits die hard for every single person therefore leaving the old ideas behind will be a hard challenge since you always want to come back to the way things were but you do not have to. having to let go of your old ideas and beliefs and accepting new ones makes a person wiser even if it is a hard thing to go through, especially a hard time of wanting to return to the old habits but once you escape your old ideas you will be much better. you will look outside the box and not make your life difficult but rather easier and more pleasant since you changed who you are as a person and your overall conceptions. we make something difficult because we do not mean to but rather because we go and take the easier way out and not realizing that there are other ideas and notions besides what we think. difficulty is part of life but you do not have to make everything so difficult just by listening to others and what they have to say and moving away from what causes you problems. it is easier to develop new ideas but harder to let the older ones go because we as humans have the tendency to make old habits die hard.

The author of that quote is describing what is called "over learning". When a company finds a strategy that works, they may be inclined to keep the strategy with the thought that if it works, don't fix it. Where the problem comes in is when the over learned strategy is used over a broad spectrum of situations. In different situations it is better to allow some randomness to parameters in planning strategies. Here is where brain storming can help if it's done correctly.

Just the old saying goes - 'you can't each an old dog new tricks'. It is so much easier to learn something new that it is to unlearn what you already know.
Science has discovered the creation of new neural pathways in the brain when we take on a new concept. It seems to me that theses are like ruts in an old dirt road that are difficualt to drive out of. They kind of send you down the same path you've always been.

It means this - When we are young we are tought to believe certain things and hold things as "the way they are" - When we are raised in such a manor it becomes engraved into our minds and beliefs.
However, being human we all have the ability to challenge such beliefs and truths - thus creating new ideas.
Now the problem is, when we are raised to believe such things it is hard for us to let them go, even though we can come up with a lot of different ideas. -
This is my interpretation of that quote - Hope you like it

For me, this quote means that it's easy for us to get stuck in a rut or rather, we have a fear of change. Essentially, we become idle in our methods, or maybe, we just get used to things the way they are.
Someone once said, "It's human nature to not like change." I believe this is related to the quote. We are naturally-inclined to like routine. Therefore, the development of new ideas has a more difficult time finding its way into our lives.

Sometimes certain political and social ideas are so entrenched in our institutions that simply getting people to change from the old ways is the hardest thing. Its not so important which new ideas are being accepted, its only important that the old ones are being thrown out.

To me it means that in order to advance into the future you have to let go of the past. The old ideas are okay, but the future brings changes, and new ideas must reflect the changes.

To me it means that instead of trying to make everything bigger and better all the time, we should be focusing instead on fixing things that are problematic or in need of re-vamping for productivity's sake. Sometimes, the old way of doing things still works and you only need a new system if the old one's not working anymore. In other words, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

It means that it's harder to change what you currently do than to come up with a new idea.
This happens in business fairly. You can have a great idea of how to run your business better, but actually changing the mindset of your employees and getting them to change is very difficult.

People have a difficult time accepting change. We get comfortable in our "world" and like things to remain the same. We're fearful of the unknown, so we resist change and don't think outside the box.
