As early as you can. Shelters have been spaying and neutering kittens at two months for about ten years now. The Winn Feline Health Foundation did a long-term study that showed it did not adversely affect cats to be fixed early.

Spaying your cat is an important part of basic cat health care. Spaying at a young age prevents mammary cancer and spaying at any age prevents unwanted kittens, noisy heat cycles, and possibly even urine marking in the house.
The traditional age for spaying is six months, however, this practice has enabled kittens to be adopted from the shelters unspayed.
Often the new owner fails to return for spaying and the result is further contribution to the pet over-population problem. The last ten years has brought us a great deal of research into "early" spaying and we now know that there is no problem with spaying as early as 8 weeks of age.
Sometimes vet finds such tiny tissues difficult to manipulate and we like to spay our female patients when they weigh at least 3 1/2 to 4 pounds.

Usually any time after the cat is 8 weeks old. Some vets, though, go by "weight" rather than age, and most will not spay a cat that is less than 4 pounds.

The best time to spay a cat is before they come into heat for the first time, usually around 6 months. If you wait too long you will have a lot of kittens!

Most vets opt for 6 months. I know of an animal shelter who has a vet volunteer who spays or neuters a cat as soon as it weighs 2 pounds though. The younger the cat is, the quicker they heal up.
Talk to your veterinarian and find out how young they will usually spay or neuter. It may differ between vets.

All of my parents cats are usually spayed and neutered before they are like 2 but if i remember right i think the vet said that no old than 5. Because then they are used to being in heat and spraying.

I totally disagree with cheeryleader468 her answer is just plain retarded that's my opinion though. Well down to your question our male cat got neutered at 3 months because he was big for his age but I have heard that females are supposed to get spayed at the age of 3-5 months before they start get tin in heat, but to be sure call your vet or pay him a visit for the rabies shots and booster. Hope I help.

Prior to the first heat, which is about 6 months old. With each heat cycle that they go through they greatly increase their risk of developing mammary cancer. Not to mention the fact a cat in heat is a terribly irritating thing to have in your house. So get her spayed as soon as the vet can put her in the schedule if she is 6 months old.

If it is a legit vet, they will not spay the cat until it is 5-6 months old. Their first heat cycle will not be until they are that old. Any younger and they could have complications with anesthesia.
