Civil war? ROTF Please. Ending welfare will do one thing: Get people working again.
'Work'. That awful, awful, horrible word that got picked because the other 4-letter words were all used. I don't LOVE work, but don't mind it, either. And, if you can find something you LIKE to do, it's really not so bad. Get creative, apply for more jobs, and don't just STAND there with your hand out. TOO many people have sucked up a welfare check for TOO long...and this 'conservative' administration hasn't done enough about it.
'hard times'? You never have those, IF you're using your head...and your hands..and your feet...HOW many companies are out there, today? Ever hear of the 'Americans With Disabilities Act'? If you can move, if you can walk unaided, if you're capable of DOING something, then DO. Stop sniveling. Get more people out there doing stuff, less people doing nothing...

Whoever thinks welfare doesn't reach illegals needs to check out hospital emergency rooms, people using food stamps in convenience stores and the public schools, none of which should provide services to illegals or their illegal offspring. Birthright citizenship must be restricted to those here legally in the first place. So yeah, and end to welfare benefits or any government benefit to illegals, together with a tough border enforcement and serious employer punishment (I'm talking jail and forfeiture) will end the problem. ROUND THEM UP AND SEND THEM HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welfare is for those of us who have fallen on hard times. Pray you never have need of it. Clean it up, maybe, but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Re. hospital emergency rooms:
Violation of the Hypocratic Oath is not the way to solve our problems, either. We can and should, however, call authorities and have criminals arrested after treatment. We cannot afford to allow charisma or pathos be justifications for crime.

Illegal immigrants don't get welfare. Welfare is for poor legal Americans. If they are here illegally the government doesn't know they are here therefor they wouldn't get a welfare check.

No. Many immigrants do not qualify for welfare because they are ILLLEGAL, though I admit there are rare instances where they receive benefits through false pretenses. Welfare is utilized by immigrants and citizens. Cutting welfare will not change illegal immigration.

Unfortunately, that would not end walfare. It would certainly slow it down. There are plenty of citizens in theis country that are deadbeats that would rather pull a check for nothing than try for something better.

Hardly... most illegals are not on welfare. Most are to afraid to apply for it ...
Of course is OUR represenatives have their way and make the ILLEGALS LEGAL... you would see welfare skyrocket.

Thats wrong plenty of legal citizens are on welfare and if you end it I guarentee that the homeless population will skyrocket.
