I'm just curious, because I'm a Christian, too. But many conservatives who use these criterion also forget that the Bible is quite explicit in its content. In fact, I can't think of anything in recent movies that is not also represented in the Bible. How then do you decide what is good to watch and what is not?

Well Americans seem to do that. In Europe things are more liberal.
The song that won this year's European song contest says "Rock n Roll angels bring the hard rock hallelujah" a phrase that in my opinion would make every hard core American christian go mad. Of course the Church here was furious but we voted this song anyway as the best :):)
The thing is if there is a purpose to use bad language, violence and sex for a reason not just to sell a product.
You just can't believe a gangster not using a certain vocabulary

Yes, to some degree, we do rely on the ratings on the movies. we also look at the title, etc. Yes the Bible does talk about awful things in the Bible, but its not physically shoved in our faces. And, also when God describes evil things, He shows us that its wrong and to leave it He shows that all evil leads to ruin and destruction. Do you see this in the movies? NO You see graphic sex and violence, and rarely does it have the message to get away from it all. It makes you crave even more. and if we just follow what God says we have these answers. God tells us not to view anothers body, not even our brother or our sister. and to think on good things and pure things. He does not say go watch all the filth you can. no. thats the devils lure. Just like God, he talks about men with more than one wife, cuz that happened then. But, did He ever say to go do this, that it was right? NO. He speaks again masturbation and abortion. Does he show graphic scence of it and condone it. Anyone calling themselves Christian and seeing movies that arent glorifying GOd arent truly Christians. It is a label they use so easily. A christian is someone that loves God, accepts Jesus as His saviour, and follows and obeys all that God says, and always asks what would Jesus do to every scenario in this life. longing to obey and follow and lead others to them. Just saying you believe in God does not make you a Christain, or even saying you believe in Jesus. Do you love Him enuff to obey the Word. that is the question. The more filthy movies people go see, the more they will make, its about money in the world today. people love more money and pleasure than they love God. Only those loving God and obeying Him will be in heaven. sin leads to death. Disobedience brings curse. Dont take my word for it. Read what the Bible says, and pray about it. Truth will come to you. I will pray...The way we know if it is ok to watch or not... first off we use the minds God gave us to see what its about, whats in it and whats not, and we also ask God in prayer. If there is any doubt at all, we dont see it. we think on only pure things of God. that simple and that easy. If we are obedient to God, He gives us great discernment, what is truth and whats not. This is how we deceide on anything, not just the movies.

I am a Catholic, but I'm a strong supporter of free speech. If something strikes me as morally offensive, then I don't patronize it (I don't buy the book, watch the TV show, go to the movie, attend the concert, etc). I don't presume to tell others what to do in this regard, and resent it when others do so in the name of Christianity. If you don't like the TV show, then change the channel, but don't tell me that I can't watch it just because you're offended. To me, censorship is evil.

I usually don't go to the movies anymore. I watch movies on TV though, I have cable, and I always know when something is happening that God would prefer I don't continue to watch. Why? Because I am born again in Jesus Christ and have God's spirit living within me. That spirit instantly speaks to me when I say, do, think something wrong or watch something God would not have me watch. That is exactly the way I want it....I want daily to be taught how He would have me live and what He wants me to stop doing.

I pray for obedience to His conviction! I don't always obey!

I decide what is good to watch by myself thank you very much, I do not need a primer which is in itself sexist racist and seriously out of date to help me.

Yes I do because what I am fed reveals where my appetite will be. The bible is not vulgar and full of derogatory words.
