Use your router to set up either WEP or WPA encryption. .

There will also be an option to hide your SSID, I think this is the easiest and best option as if nobody can see your SSID, they won't know you have wi fi. This won't stop the die hard warpathers, but then again warpathers usualy only target businesses for there uber fast connections.

Lasher702, a SSID is not encryption its a name that identifies the AP (Access Point).

Anyway, you have to go into your routers configuration. Read the user manual; it'll tell you what address to type into your browser address bar to access the configuration along with the user name and password to gain access. I recommend using WPA (use WEP only if any of the other computer's WiFi cards don't support WPA), also setup MAC Address filtering. Read your routers manual to know how to set it up right.

Make sure you setup a strong SSID (a key used to identify a person able to use the network). If you setup a 128bit SSID it is very very highly unlikely anyone will be able to take into your WIFI network.

I would just setup an ACL this frustrates people they see your network and it is reported as being unsecure.... however if their mac address is not on your list they cannot connect.
