It's easy (let me get away with calling it a "cop-out") to distrust law enforcement officers, and yes, even hate them, when the public's eye is so often cast upon the bad ones. Uniforms riding in reflectively striped cars with bright lights and loud sirens are designed to attract attention and they are very effective. No one can debate that law enforcement officers are "out front" on the stage of society. News media sensationalists love stories about police going bad, they always make for good headlines and beefy bylines. Looking down at your speedometer and realizing that you are going 18 m.p.h. over the speed limit often causes a person to immediately look around and make sure they don't see one of those nicely striped sedans anywhere.
Fortunately, the bad cops aren't in the majority statistically. This tends to mean little when folks start spouting the anti-police drivol about how wicked all law enforcement officers are, and how the primary motivation for taking the job is a vengeance against society for picking on them in high school. Seemingly everyone has a story about a cop gone wrong, and love to share it whenever the topic is brought up.
What is most ironic, is that many of those who "hate" cops, distrust them, or whatever you want to call it, are staunchly opposed to racism and other forms of ignorant stereotyping, when in fact they are guilty of it themselves in their overly generalized opinions of the police. They spew negativity towards a select, but generalized group of people, simply because of a mindset which stems from either a related bad experience with a member of that group, self-imposed guilt or feelings of inferiority, envy, or a general feeling of fear or discontent with the authority that the law enforcement officer represents in society. To hate the whole organization is unjustifiable, but remains justified in the mind of the one holding such feelings when hidden behind excuses and fallacious reasoning.
It is easy for one of them to overlook the uniform cop that changed a tire for their grandmother one night, while they are in the process of deriding all police for what they percieve is good cause. Their ignorance, lack of understanding, and oversimplification is exactly what they hate in others, but vehemently defend in themselves. Perception is reality to them, and objectivity, foreign.
The cycle has come full circle. After 9-11, cops and emergency service workers were tireless heroes to the vast majority of the people they serve. The world witnessed the devotion of the majority, and if only for a short while, remembered the degree of commitment that it takes to stay on such a job. It is sad to see that in such a short while, that feeling has degraded again.

My experience with people who hate cops is that those people are generally people who desire to break the law by things like doing drugs, shoplifting, driving drunk, and something as small as speeding. Dopers resent the fact that cops bust them for selling and using dope, drunk drivers resent the fact that they arrest them for driving while being intoxicated, and speeders resent them because they aren't allowed to romp up and down the highways in a reckless manner. I've also found that most law abiding citizens don't hate cops and actually respect them and appreciate the job that they do, but that majority isn't very vocal and the minority is, as with many things in America. As with any profession there are rotten apples but they are few and not representative of the many. If you hate cops remember that approximately 200 of them will die this year while protecting your community for salary that would qualify them for food stamps.

I do think that people should be better educated in the functions of law enforcement, however I can see why people feel the way that they do about police officers...to an extent. There are police officers who abuse their power and it's those officers that make the rest of them look bad. People should repect a police officer's authority regardless though, because most officers are trying to look out for the public's well-being.

People hate law enforcement because they are ignorant and or have violated the law in some way. My minor in college is currently criminal justice, so I've read about many of the reasons why people don't care for law enforcement officers. People have to understand police, FBI, S.W.A.T. are only doing their jobs and upholding the law. And yes, people do need to better educated about law enforcement. If people took the time to learn a bit about laws, etc. then I think people would have more respect for law enforcement agencies.

yes, people need a better education about law enforcement. if there were more awareness of crime and consequence there would be less crime.
police tend to be scrutinized mainly because their job requires enforcement of laws using procedure. occupations surrounding law tend to be unfavorable in the eyes of americans in general (ex: attorneys, government occupations, law enforcement, etc.)
keep in mind police also carry the necessary burden of being bearer of bad news, to someone who either intentionally or inadvertantly breaks law(s). in general, police are portrayed as robots that write tickets, arrest criminals, and enforce petty crimes
also, the media generally exploits police caught using improper procedure, breaking the law, using unnecessary force, etc.
in actuality this occurs with minimal frequency. perhaps with better law enforcement education at the high school level, a more favorable general opinion of police would exist. personally, i doubt it though. I cant see someone showing up late to work appreciative of receiving a speeding ticket, knowing the road is safer for others now.

"so why people hate sooo much cops?"
We're a bunch of criminals, unappreciative of the sacrifices that porkies make every day for us, on such limiting salaries. We lie when we file a grievance against them for excessive force, and violation of civil rights. We are low-lives, angry at porks because we must have been arested, and deserved what we got. Who are *we* to think that they break the law! How dare *we* complain!

because they represent Authority , so while people have a hatered for cops it is a general distain for the system and a lack of respect for law abideing society, unfornately the police are the most visible form of authority so people hate cops . If politicans came out and tried to enforce the laws they created people would hate them worse ......its just a general thing that manifests itself in the form of cop hatered ......

People don't hate cops. They hate getting caught doing something wrong.
Anyone who "hates cops", how about we go a year without any of them? Let me know how you make out.
