There is currently a 10 million dollar class action countersuit pending approval against directTV for that. They basically got your information from credit card orders you placed for card readers. Check out the site http://www.dtvlawsuits.com/

Hello,

Here is what I find amusing about your post. Being that I now work in the data security sector, I find it very hard to believe you were using DirectTV smart cards to secure your small network.

This is why I think you are full of it. How the hell could direct tv find out who you are, your address, etc to send you a letter if you did not have the service to begin with. Directv does not send out bogus letters just to see who will pay the bill.

How do you know you don't like their service if you never had it.

Maybe you never OWNED a dish (by purchasing) but maybe you borred one, found one, or even stole one.

Directv is a satellite company, meaning they service the ENTIRE United States / Canada/ Etc. If you live in the USA, guess what, you get their service. If you live on top of a mountain in the most remote countryside of the United States, even better, your closer to the signal,

Either something is skewed w/ directv (doubt it) or your not telling us everything (very possible)

As some people on answers know, I am always on the posters side, but being that I was a criminal, and know how the mind works. I'm going to call you out on this.

Do this:
Hold hands in front of at about shoulder level. Turn hands, with thumbs on top,and make a fist. Then, hold hands like that for an hour or more, or until your shoulders hurt.
This will give you an idea of how they will feel, as you stand behind the bars of your jail cell, where they will put you for stealing their tv signals!
After several days of doing that exercise, you'd better pay up, or get yer affairs in order, to prepare for a long trip! guess where!

Two choices, either contact an attorney or call direct TV and confront them on this. Calling them might be very frustrating but you may be able to reconcile this issue. If you contact an attorney then you will probably have to pay him/her 3k to take care of it. I bet if you let it go and go to court you can explain this to a judge and get it thrown out of court.

Excellent Question. Go to that website about DirectTV lawsuits and contact an attorney to be safe. They could sue you in civil court if they have proper evidence.

It is time to secure a lawyer. You may have done something illegal and as the law states "ignorance of the law is no excuse". But for your benefit so that you know what you may have done wrong or so that you might know what they might be doing wrong get a lawyer.

I would write them back and tell them that you are using it legally and that you own legal equipment. If this is true, then they obviously can't prove any different. If they contact you and want to prosecute you, then get a lawyer. If I was innocent, I would fight it.

Let them take you to court. If they do not service your area and you do not have a satelite dish then they are up the creek.

i knew someone this happened to but he was hooking up people's dishes illegally and was charged way more than this and is in jail right now for trying to fight it . sounds like you will have to pay if those smart cards are illegal for you to have
